Hi,

The battery in my Huracan went dead a 2 weeks ago. I tried to start it but it wouldn't turn over and instead lots of error messages started flashing up on the screen.

I charged the battery back up and it started fine, and all error messages were gone. I then brought it on a long drive to keep the charge in the battery.

I now have 2 small issues, and I'm not sure of they are related:

01 - Whiney Noise: when I start up the car (cold start), there is a small whiney noise for about 2 seconds

02 - Struggling To Start: I started it up a few days ago (it had been driven 5 days prior to that), and it started but it did struggle to start... The battery seemed to be at 80% charge on the dial.

Any idea what either of them could be or if they are related? How accurate is the battery level indicator dial?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I found the voltage indicator to be not indicative. My battery on my previous 610-4 died unexpectedly. There was no indication it was going based on the voltage indicator. I did find that despite the battery always being on a battery tenderer the auto stop start never worked. I assumed it was just not activated but it was indicative of a weak battery months before it failed! I don’t know about the whining sound - I’ve never heard it on mine.

After replacing the battery I also installed a Bluetooth battery monitor. You can check battery level and weeks of historic data via your phone so you can tell if it’s losing charge. It also tells you if the battery power is in the normal range required for cranking.

Also, as my car was under warranty when the battery needed replacing I got a Lambo one. 550 quid or something. It was pointless. You can get a good quality non Lambo battery for 150 quid and it’s straightforward to replace. You just need to remove the frunk liner.

Just curious - were you obliged to get a Lambo battery to comply with the warranty terms or did you just think it was a good idea to at the time ?

TIA.

Hi - it was the former: only because it was under Lambo warranty so they insisted on an OEM battery. I would have just got a good quality alternative otherwise.

^^ Wow - £ 500+ for a battery... the 'Lambo Tax' is in full view there!

I started a thread on this on Saturday. Porsche wanted $500 for a battery + $700 fitting. The same battery was $250 at Audi and $180 at VW. Looking at the specs from replacement batteries, it looks like it is the same one in your Lamborghinis.

Yep, absolute daylight robbery. A ridiculous requirement to keep the warranty active. In hindsight they’d likely never check, but...

Being in the US, they are not allowed to pull stunts like that. My Porsche had gaps in the service history (independent services but I didn’t have to show the documents) and Nankang tyres on it when I bought it and took it in for warranty work. No questions were asked, they just handed me the keys to a Macau GTS.

The tires were changed quickly for none “N” rated ones that were suitable for the environment where I live. That’s another warranty violation in the UK.

They're not allowed to pull stunts like that in the UK either. Your warranty isn't invalidated by using non-OEM parts / serviced by a non-OEM workshop etc... It's supported by legislation. Doesn't mean of course that we don't all do it to save the aggro, but the reality of the situation is that you have no compulsion to use an OEM dealer or their parts to maintain your warranty.
