There is definitely something awry between old and new:
e.g. Aston Martin Rapide
New 29 cars including a Bentley and an Elan ??
Old 34 Cars including 1 sold
Aston Martin Vanquish
New 29 cars
Old summary says 24 but there are 27 including 1 sold
Thats the special edition Rapide Elan Type II ... fixed that thanks.e.g. Aston Martin Rapide
New 29 cars including a Bentley and an Elan ??
Old 34 Cars including 1 sold
Aston Martin Vanquish
New 29 cars
Old summary says 24 but there are 27 including 1 sold
The difference is the relative processing times of dealer car feeds. They cant run at the same time so updates don't occur simultaneously. This will be resolved very soon as we change the way this runs.
Phil
Phil OK but
there is one private Vanquish in the new
http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...
that is not in the old and the ad is 2 days old

Am I being daft, but in the old classifieds the location of each car was in the snapshot list of all the cars for sale, but now you have to go into each seperate ad to see where the car is located?
Your right I think. It'll give you a distance if you put your postcode in. But location (e.g. Bradford), is not there as far as I can see.Munter said:

Meanwhile, use a local postcode, (it would appear according to eBay I live in Tesco extra)

One would imagine this is possible?

You only need to put in the 1st 1/2 of the post code anyway. So I put in WV2 for home or BH6 for the sister in laws place (1st car hunting).Meanwhile, use a local postcode, (it would appear according to eBay I live in Tesco extra)

The location of the car is more useful to know (at a glance) than the distance. A car ten miles away could be very convenient or a complete nuisance depending on whether it's 10 miles across London for example!
Oh I agree (and as soon as you mentioned it I realised it was why I was looking at dialing codes to work out location). I just thought I'd save people the bother of looking up the local tesco postcode to avoid giving away their street.bitwrx said:
Hi Stuart,
Not sure if this has been covered already. Sorry for not reading the whole thread.
I've got an ad up at the moment, and IMHO, it looks ace... in the old format.
I used a load of wiki formatting (== for section heads, * for bullets etc). The new site has stripped it all out. It looks like it was written by an illiterate who doesn't know to use paragraphs, or spaces after a full stop.
Good
Bad (Even the old url is easier to remember...)
Please give me my formatting back!!!
(Yes I know its a free ad site, and I'm sure there are very good technical reasons why the new site is going to be better. I just hope the formatting tags make it into the new version soon.)
ETA: It also has the year of my car down as '84. It says '83 in the logbook. I think. It's also not a 1.3. It's a 1275. Not a big thing, but I'm selling it on PH because it's a specialist car site, for what I think is a specialist car (or at least one with niche appeal). A 1.3 mini in a mini-nut's mind is more likely to be a 1293cc or a 1340cc, or most likely a 1.3i. None of these describes the engine in my car.

I just been on the new ad site to try and get some form of decent presentation back. I thought a foolproof way of viewing my old ad would be to type in the tinyurl I'd set up for it: www.tinyurl.com/miniforsale. The advert has been taken down, and a misleading message is displayed (saying I'm a dealer, and the stock is no longer available). I'm pretty annoyed about this because I have the link going into a few magazine ads this month.
When I went to update the text, I ended up being asked to pay a tenner for posting the ad. I would happily pay that, maybe more, for an advert that:
- Allowed me to use wiki-like formatting to enhance the presentation of the ad.
- Allowed me to link from the advert to a nice big gallery of pictures on my Picasa account.
- Had a URL that didn't change.

You assume that all the HTML formatting makes a single jot of difference to people looking to buy your car, and we would contend that it doesn't. I'm not sure why you would try to login and go through all of this when you've already discovered that running html in copy isn't something we want in our ads, nor external links.I just been on the new ad site to try and get some form of decent presentation back. Both of those measures are purely to protect users from scam activity, and not punitive or aimed at antagonising you. However we aren't going to change this policy, so if this means that you decide not to advertise your car on PH, so be it.

I actually quite like the format of the new page BUT...
1) performance is utterly abysmal
2) searching for a 997 Carrera shows mainly 996's - not a format problem but mainly dealers taking the piss I assume.
The second one might be a temporary migration problem, but the chaps can take a look.1) performance is utterly abysmal

It's performing really well - anecdotally and according to the stats/monitoring. What are you using to access it, and how long has it been performing abysmally?

I've checked in the 'old' classifieds and a lot of 996's showing up under the 997 area , not sure if new and old share a database though so it could be a migration issue.

Browsing with Chrome - both last night from home which was unusable and at lunchtime today from work which was merely very slow! {just re-checked and it's whizzing along, might have been a lunchtime peak]

Thanks. We'll check the logs, but from looking at other posts in here we may have had some ad serving issues site wide which were causing the site to slow down. I must admit that when I go into the old site classifieds they suddenly feel very slow now that I'm used to the new.I've checked in the 'old' classifieds and a lot of 996's showing up under the 997 area , not sure if new and old share a database though so it could be a migration issue.
I have found an anoying bug
I don't use the "Browse makes and models" box as that just is anoying.
so at the top I use "Classifieds/Used cars/Audi/R8" to look for R8's
as an example once into R8's I some times loose the Audi Tag so have to all the way back to used cars and cannot get straight back into Audi.
