Agreed.
It's change when there was no need to. Still, I suspect a few bob has been spent on this latest 'improvement' so it HAS to work like it or not. I don't like it, it's crap.
There was a need to change the classifieds. The old classifieds was only good if you wanted to browse, or if there was a certain car you wanted. It was no use to anyone who didn't know what car they wanted, but wanted a certain critrea. The new classfieds can cater for both type of people. It's change when there was no need to. Apologies, but I have 'my own' opinion. I still don't like it. Why complicate things? PH used to attract a lot of knowledgable/enthusiastic/helpful people which was a huge attraction to the site, and these are leaving and more often than not replaced by the not so knowledgable/enthusiastic/helpful people that seem more concerned with showing their prowess at the keyboard than offering valuable machanical knowledge. Just my slant as the new classified section caters more for the latter looking more like Autotrader than Pistonheads.

It was and it still caters to enthusiasts. The classifieds needed a change, so it got it. You can still browse the classifieds the way you're used to, nothing about that has changed.Edited by macdeb on Sunday 30th September 18:21

So gallery view will still use the available space - please show me how to do that ?cuneus said:

Cuneus is referring to the fact that the gallery view no longer auto expands to fill widths above 1024 pixels as the old site does. I'm not sure that the impact is quite as extreme as he would suggest, and the decision was informed by the insight we have into the breakdown of screen sizes used to access PH (the vast majority, and growing, lower than 1280px wide).
However I accept that it is something that some users don't like about the new site, albeit that we've had very few complaints about it.

^^^^ Sorry Stuart but don't agree. Many people are put off from complaining because of the possible flack they WILL get as a result and so keep quite and put up. I've had another look today and stand by my previous opinion that it's now like any other car selling website. Shame really but never mind eh?
We're not giving anyone flack for complaining. We certainly encourage constructive feedback, but we're not deleting anything at all on the subject.
Don't forget that this isn't the first time PHers have seen the site. We've been using a test team on this since the beginning of the year, and many things have changed from the site we launched last year - thousands upon thousands of new lines of code, a complete redesign and hundreds of tweaks to the way things work.

Im not averse to change but the new classified format is just unhelpful and unnecessary, and I'll be looking elsewhere. Signing-off.

Personally I like the new style, what is it you don't like about the new improved lok?
Some will like it, some wont, I don't. [as if you hadn't guessed ]

Hi Paul, for me it's not a 'new improved look', just a copy of every other site out there and that's a shame.

I was determined not to get drawn into this, since we've been through it once already. Here are just a few reasons why it really isn't just a copy of every other site out there; Some will like it, some wont, I don't. [as if you hadn't guessed ]
1. We don't insist on a postcode to start every search. We've got some nice mapping tools if you do want to tell us where you are, but it isn't compulsory. Most other sites insist on this.
2. You can search for more than one make and model at a time. So if you want to look at 3 series, C class and A4 all at once, in one set of search results, but no other cars, you can. Most other sites make you choose a make and model, and you have to start a new search if you want to look at others.
3. You don't have to tell us what car you want to look at. You can just look at everything which is rear wheel drive, has more than 500bhp, and costs less than £30k if you want. Once you've done that, you can decide if you want to remove specific makes and models from results, or only see the ones in red, black or orange. Most other sites make you choose a make and model first.
4. The old site way of navigating (ie straight into a make or model from the homepage) is still there and you can ignore everything else if you want.
5. As a seller you can upload more images, and at a bigger size, than any other site. For a private seller, assuming that you don't qualify for a free ad because you've been around for a long time, the ad will cost you £9.99, and not the near £40 other sites will charge.
So it isn't, despite what you might think, "a copy of every other site out there."
We've made a number of tweaks to the redesign since last time, mostly in response to comments and criticisms made at the time (I have a document which lists every one, and trust me when I say that we've been through them all in detail!) Chief amongst them was the way in which the first relaunch had columns to the right and left of the body copy of the ad which squeezed it and made the ad very long and narrow.
That's been changed now, so the copy has a lot more width on the page. I can see us making a few more tweaks to this in due course though, so all feedback is being taken on board.

You've got me wrong, I don't for one minute think PH itself gives flack, it doesn't have to as there are so many volunteers on that front. Test team? You may have been preaching to the converted. I'm not alone with my thoughts as many on here feel the same but don't think it's worth the bother to air their views. Things move on I suppose and so will PH, it just doesn't feel like the same place as of late. I don't wish to fall out with anyone, just be able to give my opinion but will obviously wait [not for long] for the usual barrage because of it.Don't forget that this isn't the first time PHers have seen the site. OK, sorry for giving an opinion that doesn't tow the line as critiscism doesn't sit well. Best I keep quiet. it isn't, despite what you might think, "a copy of every other site out there."

Hi Stuart sorry about this - I only wondered if anyone else had noticed the changes!
Apparently they have lol.
Anyway it shows that your users care about the site and what it delivers
Now I don't think "Autoraider" would get this amount of feed back do you!
Onwards and upwards eh.
Cheers
Steve
