New Sign In FAQs

We emailed you recently to make you aware of changes to our login system, where we were combining our separate Classifieds and Forums accounts to a single account for every user on PH. We have created a guide below to help with any queries you may have.

Account Queries

I have been logged off?
As part of the new system, everyone will have to login again, sorry, a necessary evil of bringing in the new system

I can’t login using the credentials I have always used?
There are a small few that may have been assigned a different username, we have sent you an email confirming what this is. For all you can now also login with the email address you registered with.

I can't login with my username
If you have an @ or ' in your old username, plus a few more special characters then these do not currently work in the new login system. You will have to login with your email address instead.

I have forgotten my password
Click forgotten password on the login page and you'll receive an email with password reset instructions. This accepts either your username or email address.

I have forgotten the email address I registered with
You can also login with your username.

I had two accounts on the same email address and now one is not working?
No data is lost, we have tried our best to merge the accounts together, but a few we could not match. If you contact us then we'll merge the accounts together.

How do I change my email address?
You need to contact us at login@pistonheads.com and we'll be able to change it this end.

Has my email address been updated?
No, all email addresses remain the same.

Username Queries

I’m not happy with the username you’ve given me
You can change this within your account details page.

I’m a forum user, you’ve changed my username?
This is likely to be due to characters we don’t accept, but you can change this in your account details page.

What are illegal characters?
Username contains unexpected characters or is too short, please use A-Z, 0-9, space, fullstop, hyphen or underscore

I have forgotten my username
You can login to your account using your email address, you will see your username on the account details page.

I have received an email with a different username to the one I am logging in with?
We have listened to your feedback and have tried to retain most users usernames so we may have changed this since we sent you the original email.

Forum Queries

I can’t see any posts I have made in the forums?
No data is lost, where we have found multiple accounts we have tried our best to pick the best one, but we may have got a few wrong. If you contact us at login@pistonheads.com then we'll update this for you.

I can’t see my favourite forums?

I can’t access hidden forums?

I can see my classifieds adverts, but not my forum posts

I have verified my email, but it keeps telling me I need to verify it?
Log out and back in again to clear the cookie that sets this.

Classifieds Queries

I can’t see any adverts I have in the classifieds?

I can only see old adverts I have posted in the classifieds?

I can see my forums posts, but not my adverts

I have a trade classifieds account and a forum account, where is all my data?
If you had the same email address for both accounts then we will have merged these accounts so you will retain all data. If you wish to separate these accounts then please contact us at login@pistonheads.com and provide us with a new email address.

Other queries

You’ve deleted one of my accounts and I want both?

I have received 2 emails with 2 different usernames?
It’s most likely that you were registered on the site with 2 different email addresses and have 2 accounts with us. If you would like these merged then please contact us.
