Can't be arsed to read 117 pages of crap, but why do internetists keep trying to fix something that wasn't broke ?
It was broken though, fundamentally so at a technical level even if it didn't appear so for users. As time went on this would have been causing more and more problems in terms of management, upgrades, adapting to modern infrastructure requirements etc.It would also have increased risk when trying to keep the forums, and our data, secure.
Could they have done it a different way? Undoubtedly.
Is this the finished article? Highly unlikely. Many of the initial grumbles have been sorted and issues raised here continue to be addressed.
It's not as good to use (read) as it used to be but it's not the end of the world to me.
I must admit I'm getting used to the mobile skin more as I use it but I'm definitely using it less as it's just not as fluent anymore. Dismissing the mobile skin as that simply has too many problems to list I'd like to see on the desktop site;
Quote Speech Bubbles. God these are naff, it's simply impossible to follow who's multi-quoting whom?! Plus, it doesn't allow MY quote showing up in blue if someone quotes me. If there are multiple discussions going on in a thread which invariably there will be, I can't skim read to the conversation that involves ME. This would appear to have been thought up by someone who has never used a forum for discussion before.
Forum Groups. Once you read through a thread when you get to the bottom of the page you used to have a hyperlink to the forum group. This is really missed by me as you have to click twice to get to where you want to be. For such a simple thing I'm at a loss as to why it's gone

Unnecessary vertical scroll bars appearing at bottom right on some pages on Chrome, Win 7. This exhibits the problem for me:

But Vaud, read links show in blue standard weight font here, with unread links being same but bold font weight. I don't understand where the purple fits in and it's only on select items. I should add that this is all across the same device (desktop PC), not accessing from multiple different devices which can lead to confusion.
It seems to me the purple denotes where you have visited. If you looked at the first page via clicking the thread title that then appears in purple.
If you looked later on and clicked a page number for example that page then appears in purple but the thread title doesn't.
First visit in a good few weeks. Overall forum looks better, works better. Reply box is still horrible
Overall, much improved but several weeks' absence through PH-inflicted disgust has left me realising how little I missed the place. Got loads done when I would otherwise have been wasting time on t'internetz, So thanks PH for your indescribably bad and disgusting "updates" freeing up lots of my spare time

I understand that completely, that's my day job too. At least when getting paid for it there's a tracking number on jira and although you might not see any activity until it gets resolved, at least you know it's been acknowledged and is being acted upon. The complete disinterest shown by ph staff isn't an incentive to point things out.
I'm actually a developer rather than a tester as such, but I am used to raising defect reports even if it is so I (or a member of my team) can then act upon them, or pass them over to another team better suited to addressing them. But, yes, I completely agree. As a freelancer, though, I charge a client quite a lot of money for that.
If you add to that the professional advice from web developers that has been offered here, and roundly ignored, it's starting to make Haymarket look a little ungrateful really.

This may have already been asked, but can we have a like and dislike button at the bottom of every post like they do in the comments sections at the bottom of news articles online?
It may reduce the necessity to moderate quite so much
No. The site you are looking for is called Facebook. This is PistonHeads. It may reduce the necessity to moderate quite so much
It's a simple feature which can go a long way. I too think PH should adopt it, like everywhere else has. Well, after they fix half the stuff in this thread.

I've struggled since the change to read the text properly, especially the thread list.
My eye sight isn't the best so I've created a FireFox extension which styles the forum to something I can actually read. It suits me, so may not suit you but if you want to try you can download it here and install it by going to; AddOns (click the menu in the top-right), click the gear icon and select 'Install Add-on from file...'

After:
It's not perfect but at least I can enjoy the forum now.
