Threads deleted because of links??!!
Discussion
Just had two threads deleted because they contained links to an Instagram account on the basis:
"No promotion by linking to your social media sites please."
Really? These are personal sites and not promotion. In what way are these different to other websites, that everyone else links too in threads on this forum?
Am I allowed to link to a personal website hosted on a personal domain?
Seems a very strange policy for an Internet forum.

No. It was a link to my daughter's personal Instagram account and my own personal Instagram account. Not promoting or selling anything, just thought the pics of the new Mazda MX-5 RF would be of interest.
So post them on a thread here (the pictures that is, not links to Instagram).jeremyc said:

My daughter is a student. She doesn't have a career. So how are you meant to share pictures of cars on Pistonheads then? You can't be telling me no one else has used Instagram in the past.

You use the [img] tag to embed the image in the post.robcollingridge said:

The rule is pretty archaic but Haymarket/PH doesn't want you to make money from this community even if it's not direct but via monetised YouTube etc. They want all the money for themselves via adverts on here...

A professional photographer got in trouble a little while back for having a watermark on his wonderful photographs he posted within the Photography Section as Haymarket/PH deemed it as advertising even though he was a long standing member...So how are you meant to share pictures of cars on Pistonheads then? Any link in a post will drive traffic to the linked website. It must therefore be an 'endeavour to drive traffic to an external site'. So all links are banned then? It doesn't appear so when I look at these forums. Plenty of 'adverts' for events being hosted by commercial organisations.
I think someone should bring the 'rules' up to date and inline with the Internet enabled world we live in.

There's a link at the bottom of every single thread.
OP, have a moment of honesty with yourself.
A post which said "my daughter got offered a free loan of a car and here's a picture of her sitting in it" is one thing (PH photoshoppers notwithstanding).
A post which said (effectively) "here are links to loads of pictures of my daughter who's won stuff and if you all click on it maybe she'll become a fraction more famous for five minutes" is quite another.
As I alluded in one of the deleted threads, the fact that you posted the same thing (at least) twice, in separate fora, with added information which was NOT anything to do with "does anyone like the new MX-5?" looks perilously similar to attention-whoring.
