(ANSWERED)"Block user" option?
Discussion
On the strength of threads like this, https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... would it be possible sometime in the future to have a "block user/poster" option?
I know this has probably been discussed before but I thought since the recent forum changes it may now be a better time to implement such an option.

It's bad enough when some posters dont read certain poster's posts, so post something answered already in the post just above if only theyd read it
Can you imagine how disjointed a thread could become if each poster could blank out say 10% of the posts
Anyway which user in that thread did you want to block?

I'm against being able to block users.
This is part of a modern trend, on the internet and increasingly in society in general, of trying to hide viewpoints you disagree with.
It's the start of censorship, because the next step from there is "this person is blocked by xxx number of people, I think if a person has xxx people blocking them, they ought to be banned".
If you don't like someone's posts....ignore them. It's just an opinion you don't agree with.
Of course, the next step in this discussion will be someone to claim the person they want to block is a "troll", which again these days seems to translate to "someone with an opinion I don't like".
What happened to forums being places where people could post their opinions without others deciding that their own opinion is the only one that anyone should be allowed to have?

You're wrong.. For me It's got nothing to do with blocking viewpoints I disagree with but rather blocking people who just want to stir the pot, be a nuisance & have got nothing of any value to add. This is part of a modern trend, on the internet and increasingly in society in general, of trying to hide viewpoints you disagree with.

For example. I don't agree with you but I wouldn't block you because you sensibly stated your opinion. Some of the threads I've seen people don't seem to have opinions & are obviously only there to annoy. That's the difference.

Unfortunately, its not on the cards, but thank you for your suggestion!
I didn't honestly think it would be, although I kind of hoped, but thanks for your reply. PhantomPH said:
I'd like to add a vote for this being developed as a feature. For the reasons stated above, some people are just dicks (including me, so...you know...I could be blocked too) and it detracts from the enjoyment of the thread you are participating in when someone is deliberately obtuse at every turn.
I wouldn't, it already exists, every user has it inbuilt. Just use it, it isn't hard. There's a simple way to block users you don't like - don't read their posts.
The only reason most people want to be able to do this is so they can boast about 'blocking' people when they've had enough of the argument.
Just ignore their posts for goodness' sake.
People my age get called 'snowflake generation' as well. Sheesh.
