The closing post from a PH staffer was ....."It's turned into a thread about religion"......or similar.

The usual arguing and inappropriateness occurred too.

Wasn't 1984 about state power rather than commercial stuff?

There wasn't anything controversial in the final few pages, to me it appeared to be shut down by someone who wasn't reading it too closely and just thought 'religion innit', even though religion was only a part of the general discussion at that point. Anyway - there it is to judge for yourselves.

I dropped a line to the 'PH Staff' but no one has bothered to comment.

I'm sure they will publish some clear guidelines about mentioning the 'r' word in due course...

Well before this one goes the same way, hats off to the swift response in Cambrils where apparently a single officer shot 4 of the 5 terrorists who were killed.

With over 130 injured in Barcelona it's a good thing so many of these wannabe's seem so inept else something similar may have happened there.

The response was remarkable. If it was just a single officer, it makes one wonder if, given the current situation, all police should be armed in this country.

At the time, with all the offenders wearing suicide jackets, he probably thought his time was up. Hats off to the chap. He probably saved a number of lives even with them being mock-ups. Given the attack on the woman - multiple stab wounds - it seems as if they'd have gone on a frenzied attack on bystanders.

As to whether the perpetrators are inept: the police response to recent incidents has been strong. The terrorists been made to look inept at times. The first incident is all but impossible to stop, hence why it is the method of choice, but the second incident was a disaster for them.

Well done that officer.

I'd echo that Derek, hat's off indeed.

Now we are seeing the clearer picture it's an interesting chain of events; a gas bomb on a large truck is plan A, but they went to plan B and hired two smaller vans as they didn't have the right licence (a similar oversight to London). When the bomb prematurely turned the squat-house into rubble and biological remains they went to plan C - mowing down pedestrians - then the 17yr driver escapes [police state they couldn't shoot in Ramblas due to the civilian density] and makes it to his accomplices where they carry on with Plan C part II, a thankfully short-lived ramming and relatively quick execution by the cop - so in some respects large failings for them but the big picture is it's still a 'successful' attack by most metrics.

A ridiculous forum to put this thread. Why not just close it and have done with it.

Where can we discuss the police response to the terrorist attack? In effect, we can't. Shame.

It was indeed a female cop, a local town cop in Cambrills.

She put 16 rounds into one of these clowns too. He kept getting up, she kept thumping rounds into his drug addelled body.

She won't need to take her purse out when eating in Cambrills restaurants, for the rest of her life.

Has it taken you nearly two hours to notice?

Anyway, if our police were armed and did the same thing, can you imagine the fall out?

Our police did just as good a job recently without having to be armed on the beat.
