Typing on a screen so it looks just like something on (say) wikipedia doesn't give it value.
What's wrong with cat videos? mad

I meant more in a bravado/ macho way. 'Don't be so gay', 'you'd have to be a homo to...', that sort of thing. There was no intention of suggesting most are.
Hmm I don't even know anyone who uses such phrases. among anyone I know, that sort of thing just isn't something anybody would say, it's just disrespectful.

Mind you, I'm certainly not macho, and bravado really isn't my thing, so perhaps I'm not the best person to ask.
I hear allsorts day to day and those are phrases I haven't heard since around 1985.

There is still plenty of it about, but gladly not in these circles.

And there was me thinking I was all covert an' everything...

I don't disagree that I go for belittlement. Possibly too often, but that's a subjective call. It's borne of frustration - some people, and I don't want to name anyone (but powerstroke is who I am thinking of - that's powerstroke, in case anyone was wondering who I had in mind) come out with some stuff that is such utter drivel that it is really beyond rational discussion. As if in a class, the question was what is 7 x 8, and some kid says "a christmas tree".

It's really symptomatic of what the internet has become. It should, in an ideal world, be a repository of reliable knowledge. Instead it is vast warehouse or porn, cat videos, and opinions of people who have access to a keyboard. ETA: I didn't really intend to claim that I was serenely above those behaviours I pointed out. I think NPE sometimes brings out if not the worst in me, then certainly not the best - sometimes.

Edited by Greg66 on Saturday 21st October 11:36
That's fair enough chap. I think from what I see that it's only NPE where you let it get the better of you, you're fine everywhere else.

Also I'm not entirely sure what I'd do without my porn and cat videos.

I initially read that as 'cat porn videos' and now I need to go and have a lie down in a dark corner.

what i find funny (and its the same across political, religious, sporting or social discussions) is how closed people can be about things.

i don't feel strongly enough about anything that i would shout at someone who puts a valid counter argument.

Its good to have a debate. It educates us and makes us more tolerant and accepting.

but when people just swear back to a salient bit of text it really does make them look stupid and devalues whatever point they are trying to make.

look at trump - his responses are childish and badly thought out. Very reactionary. And he may have some valid points but they don't come across.

Quite true.

I am guilty myself of being stubborn and ignorant to other valid view points sometimes.

I think I and many others can learn sometimes to be more open minded.

i find it confusing when there isn't a vested interested in the belief - its just thinking.

Religion is just alignment to thousand year old teachings.

Sports is just a decision made as a child base on peer pressure.

backing one or the other doesn't make you money or gives you more knowledge or power

but people will argue till they are blue in the face (or just call names instead of making a valid response.

debating is a lost art

swearing is better haha

With Brexit, backing one certainly does make you more money. The other side of the argument has lots of people going "I don't care if it crashes the economy, I want my result!"
we have people on PH saying that???

I'm not going to get into any slanging match with you but its all a bit hypocritical when you're quite a large reason a lot of posters have left the Trump thread for example.
You're guilty as hell of trying to get under peoples skin and name calling.
And again, yet another post aimed at the individual, rather than the topic.
You were one of the biggest offenders in the stupidity that went a bit too far in NP+E, i got a ban for my role and have ate it and now stick to the scale model sub-forum and the odd thread including dogs and owners cars.

To completely ignore your role in how bad things got is beyond belief, you were calling people out for fisticuffs at track days and sending bloody emails making you quite a good meme for a time.

There was a good back and forth for a time in NP+E the edgier topics which yes do infuriate and do tread the line were getting discuses inbetween the idiocy on both sides but there was conversation, however this is haymarkets playground and they've called time on a lot of it, great shame but oh well.

Certain posters have played some hardcore gymnastics mentally to absolve themselves of the degradation and it's a shame that a forum that i enjoyed when i was stuck on my arse in a cast has died a shameful death because of the overly sensitive. You guys are thinning down the impact of the term "Racist" and "biggot" much to your own detriment and the echo-chambers that became of such threads as the trump or brexit relateds has bored quite a few people by the looks.

It’s interesting that the self proclaimed “Boy in the Alt-right pyjamas”, who loved to push the boundaries of common decency, should now be playing the victim.

The boundaries of racism and bigot were left behind long ago with the comments in NP&E by a significant number of posters and this is clear from the views of many on here.

You keep referring to the “fisticuffs”, but as I’ve explained several times, one poster decided to rip the piss out of my parents, less than a week after the death of my father and when I pointed this out decided to revel in the death, rather than back away. I defy anyone to react unemotionally in that scenario. In fact, you seemed to enjoy it too amd had a nice little roll around in the st you’d all created.

Still, I’m a snowflake for my reaction, whereas you being upset at the ban doesn’t make you a snowflake. Hypocrisy much?

ha - offering people out for fights at meets? i didn't know pre-pubescent teenagers were posting on here smile

i'd love to see that meeting at work where, sat around the table, someone doesn't agree with how the latest financial spreadsheet has been conditionally formatted so an argument ensues (should we use red amber green or the themes?) and to resolve it they take it outside into the car park

as for making money out of brexit..... its only the lawyers doing that

god them must be rubbing their hands faster than a PPI claims management company

I notice these are making a come back after the last clamp down.

Another round of culling called for, I do think.

How long are the mods going to allow abusive trolls and bigots to run riot?

They infested NP&E long ago and are now branching out into other sections with their harassment of the posters prepared to stand up to them.

Trolling, abuse and off-topic posts are supposed to be against the rules.

You sound like an idiot.
A point in case. You don't know this person, never interacted with them, yet your opening reply is a baseless insult. Please feel free to fk off.
Yet 3 posts above your opening post about Santa barbera was fk right off smile
