I don't see how there can't be a development budget. There are over 100000 ads in the classifieds at over a tenner each per month. Add on all the advertisements and tracking scripts and I can't believe there are zero resources to maintain the site.Open it up for some members to contribute with development if things are really that bad. I'm sure there'd be a few volunteers.
There are plenty of PH members with the skill required to easily make these changes (as has just been demonstrated).
When the whole SSL thing was happening, there were people giving incredibly detailed (and knowledgable) advice that, frankly, many companies would have to pay many hundreds of pounds for usually. And they were pooh-poohed, and in some case ridiculed and called nerds.
In the same way that the volunteer Moderators are given elevated privileges in exchange for moderating, really HM should allow volunteer Developers to do these changes for them. And possibly volunteer Testers too. Everyone wins.
Or Open Source the forum software and let people submit changes that way.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't see this post...

Yes, that. I simply cannot understand the thought processes going on here.
Even that the most basic level it should be:
1)make a change
2)check it works/looks ok
3)if not, put it back or modify
Even that level of basic change cannot be happening here or it wouldn’t get past step 2.
So on that assumption, they must literally do step 1 and then just leave it regardless.
Mind bending.

I've seen some st excuses for fixes in my time, but that seriously takes the biscuit. Sack the developers and get anybody else. Anybody at all.
I’m starting to think that Goodwood and PH share the same developers as I though web development couldn’t get much worse than the Goodwood website and forums and then along comes the PH web team to show them whose worse! I assume they don’t employ anyone but ask the tea lady to do the website on the side? If they are paying and hopefully reading this then I suggest they look to replace the current staff.

I'm not convinced that *are* any staff. I rather suspect Jack is all there is and that PH is an extra responsibility that was given to him as a low priority background task when he's not otherwise busy on other HM stuff. And they obviously keep him busy. Anyone who thinks that there is a "PH team" sat in a room twiddling their thumbs doing nothing and studiously ignoring feedback is rather naive.

But the revenue from those ads is rapidly decreasing as everyone installs add blockers to cope with the intrusive amount of adverts and the stupid privacy setting bar. So if they don't fix it soon there really will be no resources to fix it.Clockwork Cupcake said:

Surely it’s just farmed out to some bods in India who work on hundreds of companies’ websites? I doubt anyone in uk is actually employed.
I'd imagine so. It bears all the right hallmarks. I particularly love the way they've obviously been told to stop it covering the what's new button. They've done that, but now it covers preferences. Obviously not in the spec.
What a lash up this new site setting thing is. Is it homework for all the school kids, a vain attempt to stop them making up ridiculous threads about buying a car that's broken & the seller won't take it back? Get a professional web designer to show them how it should have been done ASAP Please.

I guess they signed up for the fix only package, not fix, test and release.
