I posted on the MG thread asking for advice for my mum on how best to sell her car. I deliberately did not say anything which advertised the car, yet the thread was removed.

I have been a poster on here for 17 years and this was a genuine request for help, not a free ad. I am not the sort to take the p***. Please could the moderator who removed it replace it as I genuinely want to know how to best help my mother with her car.

Thank you in advance.

Big Al.

It was deemed to breach the rule of posting No.17f

which states:-

17. Types of threads/posts that are not permitted in the forums:-

f. Where to advertise/sell, thinking of selling up threads.

HTH explain.

Wow, I am genuinely taken aback at that 'rule'.

As I long time member and poster I am seriously disappointed at the approach.

Just for reference that ruling hasn't changed to the best of my knowledge for the last 10 years of so, it was bought in by Haymarket.

How was it deemed as me selling / advertising please?.
It was as good as an ad: a detailed description of the goods, a picture of them and you confirmed that they were for sale!

We get way too many posters trying to get around the "no ads on the forum" by posting "how do I sell", "what's this worth" or "where should I advertise" threads, hence this rule.

There's a very simple answer: advertise stuff you have for sale in the classifieds section; that's where people look to buy stuff. smile

But- I don't have anything to sell irked and looking for advice for a friend so he does not throw away several hundreds of pounds of good quality (rare?) winter tyres. Wouldn't we all prefer them to go to a petrolhead - or Landfill ?

I have no dog in this fight, just found it very curious, and deleted my post above as I felt in reflection that it would not achieve anything in asking.

eta: how would you recommend finding a way to ask for help on this instance of mine (and the OP's) ?

Put them in an advert in the classifieds (in your case your friend can make it a zero price ad if they want).

ok, thanks for your advice, but I was hoping to hear from lots of others too with ideas and places to try.
hence the thread.

Perhaps, but many others want to hear from potential purchasers (either in the thread or by PM). wink
