Looks like most of them use phone numbers, so for example, could you autoban an account that posts a thread title which contains a string of more than, says, six numbers?
Or can the captcha or similar be applied to starting a thread rather than just joining? Might be a little irritating for real humans, but it's not something that's happening constantly.
The bit that confuses me is how this spam is generating any return at all for doing it, there must be some margin in it as they keep doing it, but I'm really not seeing how it works in any practical sense

Maybe people phone from work, so it doesn't show on their own bills.Only one person needs to phone and as long as people aid and abett them by reposting the phone numbers, they're on a winner.

You really don't need to do any of that, just send in ONE report only regardless of the number of threads you see raised. It took me about 10 minutes to kill of all the spammers and remove all their threads, it then took me a further 10 minutes to get rid of all the masses of reports that come in!
I thank you for all your efforts but you really are wasting your time reporting that many threads.

I'll bear that in mind, as I reported several this morning, but tried to ensure I wasn't reporting posts from the same user.It took me about 10 minutes to kill of all the spammers and remove all their threads, it then took me a further 10 minutes to get rid of all the masses of reports that come in!

But if one report will suffice, that's what I shall do in the future.
For what it's worth - the "anti flooding system" makes it difficult to go back and reply with reported as it makes you wait several seconds - the same "anti flooding system" which doesn't prevent spammers from posting multiple posts from different accounts in quick succession.
Kind of makes the anti flooding system pointless, not so??
