Heh. That'd make it worse.

It was a helpdesk person. I'm sometimes guilty of overestimating the knowledge of helpdesk persons. And if they don't get it, explaining it ain't gonna work.

I'm not sure what to think of the last sentence. But that's all well off topic smile

Well you know what they say about having to explain jokes.

It was in the moment and I quickly moved on. Was a good five years ago now, probably longer. I'd probably not do it now.

On one of the other forums I frequent, deleted user IDs simply become "DeletedUserxxxx" (where xxxx is a number).

So any posts are effectively anonymised, unless they mention personal details of course (which would be unwise anyway).
Yep that's something I've seen quite a few times. I think the XenForo forum software might be capable of that, not sure.

Again this sparks arguments in forums because often the user is actually "flouncing", and they're trying to use GDPR to get all their posts deleted.

I'm wise to all the tricks of the trade. smile

Well I properly killed this thread with all the geek talk. Soz!

I'm off work this week and so I've been unable to resist posting geeky things. You'll be relieved to know I'm back at work next week, but not before I've attended my first ever Sunday Service this weekend.

As of today I have to accept Term & Conditions each time I go to a new page, post or reply.

Proper PITA

If changes are rolled-out overnight with no prior notification, and we have to link our accounts with verifiable 'IRL' identity in some way (e.g. credit card verification or photo ID uploads or biometric facial recognition data harvesting via a third party provider, a la Online Safety Act changes to 'adult sites') regardless of a double-decade posting history clearly indicating I am not 14, I will very likely just abandon my account.
Quick official note. This is simply a back-end upgrade to replace an old login system. Expected benefits are fewer random logouts, support for extra login providers, native integration with the PH app, and, most importantly, Ben will be happy not to have to change anyone s email address by hamster ever again.

We will not implement mandatory identity verification for general forum reading unless compelled by law. If that ever happens we will give notice, lay out your options, and choose privacy sensible solutions. No midnight passport patrols, honest.
Thank you very much for the clarification on this beer

It's a Samsung Android phone, cache cleared, phone restarted and no improvement.

However still logged in under my user name rather than email

Now logged in using email address and the problem is still there, perversely no issues on the Win 10 & 11 computers using Firefox

Hmm could be Android specific. I don't have an Android phone to test, but it doesn't go this on an iPhone.

A question if I may. When a user requests their account is deleted their posts end up as being posted by something like, apologies I can’t find an example right now, ‘anonymous user’ or similar, yet the is a meaner on here posting under ‘anonymous_user’ is there a plan to sort that before user names become fixed, because it is damn confusing sometimes

Should I send another request?
