Front view..

As regards a road trip I've missed the two I planned on going on. So decided to drive to Genoa and get the ferry to Sardinia next month.

Reason for this is I've always had a soft spot for the 1977 Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me'.
Its what got me into cars (had a S1 Esprit many years ago) so I'm going to follow the route taken in the filming along the coast roads (where the Cortina kept up with the Esprit) and the helicopter chase..
Plus the film is 40 years old next year.

Stunning, and great to see it back on the road.

I took these photos of your car at Le Mans back in 2006, quite a memorable car!

You've lost the Lambo badge of the back but your exhausts are certainly cleaner...

So...here she is after the first full road test.
I don't mind admitting I was nervous since if there was obviously something significantly wrong (given the chassis was bent like a banana) I'd have been a tad depressed. However it honestly drives like its new. MOT later this week and then 180 miles a day on the M1 commuter run..
Aren't you supposed to get the MOT before first full road test!?

Nice job, it still looks great.

Hopefully I'll see you about in it.

Lovely. A really lovely thing. This car (along with Angelis' 348 and flemke's F1) is in the list of "PH cars I want to drive the most".

At 260k mileage and given the accident, plus spot on rebuild, and purely out of prurient interest, what does the trade value this car at I wonder?

I doubt you'd sadly get many (if any) sensible trade bids on a car like this with the mileage, regardless of the fact it's probably mechanically and otherwise better than many 50k mile Lambos out there - it's the sad reflection of the car market in the UK whereby many are obsessed with low mileage cars, especially hyper cars.

Wouldn't it technically have been an insurance write off given the degree of damage, hence WBAC wouldn't buy it under their T&Cs as listed?

Your Murcielago looks stunning and the best bit is you are using it on a daily basis. I'm really pleased you have got it back on the road despite all the set-backs.

Excellent choice of film, especially the shoot-out with the drop-dead gorgeous helicopter pilot (Caroline Munro). I remember it to this day. I think she influenced my choice of future wife wink

One of our more flash neighbours used to drop his two kids off for school in a S1 Esprit, and being a two seater he had to do two runs, as a 1970s school kid I was drooling!

Next year have a drive down to the twice monthly Griffins Head Classic and Sports Car meet in Papplewick in Nottinghamshire on your drive back on the M1, it's approx 9 mins from M1 Jun 27, I think it starts in May, generally the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month till the end of September. Would be fantastic to see SG54 in the flesh and take a few photos.

Without sounding like an absolute tt, I was interested in the MOT history and it only shows 86k on the clock in the last MOT? The MOT history would show it has a genuine 86k on the clock

Im sure there is a simple answer to why.

I would assume new clocks, Trigger's broom and all that... Most lambo's don't get near 50k never mind 250k, so a clock change for a fault would come as no surprise!

I used to really enjoy reading your updates on this in EVO Simon, glad you've finally got it going again. Here's to 300k!

That's a proper petrol head that.

Rare as hell, expensive as they come, 260k miles.
I bet if you looked in the classifieds you'd struggle to find one with much over 50k

What's the average MPG, 15?

260k / 15 = 17,333 gallons of fuel. Roughly a fiver a gallon average over that period = more on fuel than some houses are worth

Bravo

It looks great and I do love a high mileage car.

Playing devils advocate what is the point of driving it everyday other than to get to 300k (don't get me wrong I applaud your efforts and it makes great reading)

My reason for asking is I would have thought driving it everyday would detract from the experience, breed contempt if you like. I imagine it's not the best in icy weather or traffic or parking or refueling or dozy commuters trying to get pictures etc etc.

Makes me wonder what your weekend drive is.
