Hi All,

I am after a Murcielago project car, in the form of a wrecked/damaged but salvagable car with no major chassis damage.

Drivetrain, suspension and cosmetic damage is fine, but interested in anything in need of repair and rebuilding. Also any part out cars or stripped chassis' laying around. Hardtop much preferred.

Please let me know of anything you know of anywhere across Europe, US, and Middle East and Asia.

Many Thanks.

There's a striped 2005 roadster chassis, front end damage though, on ebay australia. Several motors & most other parts too

Hi,

Thanks for the reference.

Yes, known of that one for quite some time. Ideal for where I am from, and where I have my base storage facility.

Ideally after a hardtop however, for ideal chassis stiffness and weight.

Would this be a cheaper way to get a Murcielago? From what i can make out they seem to be worth more in parts than as a complete car. Looking at £100k by the time you have a shell and an engine.

This manual car has been on EBay for ages. I'm sure that if you are a cash buyer, you could snap it up for a lot less money.

I think you will find that the low price is due to the fact that the car was subject to a Cat D insurance claim and as the advertiser states, the history went missing for a while. I still think it would be a great basis for a projuct car if you could bag it for £80k.

Car has been advertised for must be getting on a year.

Description always refers to not being able to answer questions due being in hospital or parent/partner being in hospital (the person changes from time-to-time)

A previous item the seller advertised had a similar "sad" story.

I did enquire about the car with some genuine questions and just got rude reply along the lines of 'stop wasting my time and just buy it'.

Personally, if a seller isn't prepared to answer questions then they're [possibly] trying to hide something and I personally wouldn't take the risk.

Seller has 4x vehicles for sale on eBay at the moment and says might take p/x - clearly a dealer I would have thought, but he said to me he wasn't.

Regarding the yellow 2002 Murci on ebay . I did go to see it in May last year before I bought mine and I have to say the guy was very pleasant, answered all of my questions without problem and as cat d cars go...the car is immaculate inside and out started up instantly and no hunting on idle. The damage / repair was to the rear right quarter panel and sill from memory and was done to a very good standard. The problem was the speedo was changed and no one really knows the mileage at point of change. However if you don't mind if it has 35k or maybe 55k mileage it's a really nice straight example. If you are doing it as a keeper you could do a lot worse. cat d cars are always 25-30% down on market value and selling it explaining the speedo thing is going to be a right pain...If you can get it for 75-80k you might make a few quid on it in 3-4 years time?

I know the yellow car and I know the owner. He has to be one of the most honest blokes alive. He has owned that car for quite a few years but hardly used it.He knows supercars inside out and has owned loads.Over the years I have bought a couple of Porsche turbos off him (i wish I had them now)and both cars were fantastic.I have just read his advert, and everything in it I know to be true. His fathers illness and passing affected him deeply.I would buy that car without any worries if I was in the position too.It seems to me that some people find honesty in an advert worrying?? He obviously thought giving some back ground on the history of the car would help prospective buyers.Had this car not been a lamborgini it would not have been cat d.The insurance company would of repaired it with the minor damage it had.I think the OP would do a lot worse than not going and viewing the car for himself.

So why didn't they? and why, if the damage was so minor, didn't the person who bought it damaged and had it repaired not take photos of the damage to show prospective purchasers? It would surely have been financially in their best interest to do so(?).

I know of a couple of CAT D cars that have been advertised for sale with similar stories and had also seen them before they'd been repaired...the seller's idea of 'minor' damage wasn't what I'd call 'minor'.

I don't know the car in question so can't say either way but the old 'buyer beware' is never more true than when buying a damaged repaired car.

Lamborghini Parts Prices are crazy, and then fitting hand beaten panels isn't like fitting a bolt on wing to say a BMW 3 series.
So the parts price plus the fitting skill required can easily cancel out the value of the repair for the insurance company.

e.g. a rear wing / fender (typical lamborghini cost new around £7k), then factor in fitting a few £k, painting and it soon mounts up - hence cars are declared Cat D before you know it.
