Does anyone have any experience of taking a Diablo on Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen and return? Are there any ground clearance problems when loading / off-loading or with due care and attention is everything OK? ....

thanks, Tony

used to take my countach to the continent by ferry ----have stopped doing that now-----no issues
Major problem with my 355 and condor some years ago

YOU need to stress to the check in staff the poor ground clearance , and insist that due care is taken

Like all ferries, it is doable, but can get scrapey. Best to give their customer services a call and ask for their measurements.

Diablo sits lower than a Countach.

I'm taking the Diablo on Eurotunnel later this year. Anyone have any relevant experience?

Get in with the vans and coaches and you will be fine on Eurotunnel. You just need to get in the right section as you drive into the queue area. Only downside is when a coach full decide to come and have a look at the car...

FYI A Veyron in TG got on and off fine.

I took my 6.0 VT over to Europe last year. Had no issue what so ever. Just took it carefully and asked to be put with the coaches.

Also done the Tunnel in other supercars, not had an issue but good grief it was tight when I was there!!!!!

Been on plenty of ferries with extremely low clearance cars, including to corsica - physically it can be tight with the ramps, but generally the staff have seen low cars before and will direct appropriately (they usually ask you to drive on diagonally up the ramp for example) and park with the lorries on the 'ground floor'.

Re the eurotunnel - top tip is to book your car with a 'roofbox' {the staff actually told me to do this) - you will be put on the single-deck train which has a significantly wider deck than the double decker. or, just follow the signs for tall cars / vans, they didn't seem to mind the last I time I didn't book a 'tall' car.

You can but really don't need to. Portsmouth/Caen is a major route for Le Mans/Le Mans Classic so they see plenty of low slung cars. I don't have a Diablo but have never had a problem taking a Ferrari over. They did once try to send me onto the upper car deck which has a steep ramp but I quickly pointed out there was no way I was going to get up and they directed me to stay on the lower deck instead.

I took my SE30 on Eurotunnel in Sep last year en route back from the CAR Magazine shoot. It's absolutely fine, no issues, but you HAVE to book it into the commercial carriages due to width. Limits number of trains available but you can't take it into the normal car carriages.

Thanks all. My Diablo now has a roof rack as far as Eurotunnel is concerned.

Maybe to late to reply on this by hey ho. Agree with comments ref Euro Tunnel. Le Mans Classic last year booked on as a van and had about 4 inches clearance either side of the cills. My car has a wider body and is 2.20M wide. I think the base of carriage was 2.4M wide. Anyway no issues just adjust your exterior mirrors to watch the clearance as you drive down the carriage.
