(I posted earlier on whether I'd lose my shirt or not on a 650s spider bought now & thx to all for their very useful replies)..... I'm assuming there are some colours that are more popular than others and some that are easer to sell on than others?? I accept it's a personal choice, but any views welcome please.

They look good in all colours :-) The volcano colours are very nice but they are high maintenance, you will need PPF as paint codes are difficult to obtain and a stone chip requires a fill panel respray. Even silver looks amazing, the only colour most people don't seem to like is the brown Frank Stephenson special, which is why it is a bargain price! You could buy it and wrap it! (its the brown one on autotrader). For me, on a McLaren, I would consider any colour and would be more interested in spec items such as carbon / lift / wheels sports exhaust etc. Much more important than colour.

PS you wont lose your shirt, I have been watching for ages, prices are slightly increasing but on mileage around £1 mile is the general cost plus SOR so 5,000 miles should cost you no more than £10k. However I have found the prices also creep up to compensate so most McLarens over 3 years old have the mileage adjustment wiped out by the slight increase in value.

I don't think any colour as the guys say is a bad colour, I wanted McLaren Orange and ended up with Ice Silver (one of the elite colours along with Volcano Orange and Volcano Red) my car looks absolutely stunning and a different colour in different types of light.

As above to me the 5k miles ceramic brakes sports exhaust etc etc was more important.

I really is a personal thing, best colours appear to be VR and then VO, personally I can't stand either .... Rusty brown (VO) lol on a sports car just doesn't do it for me.

feel free to email direct if you want further guidance on what I posted on other thread.

Volcano colours are amazing in the sunlight but don't necessarily photo very well so you have to see them with the naked eye
I don't think there is a bad colour other than the Bourbon Brown one which is hideous hence it not selling and being £10k less.

There seems more variety in owners choice with McLaren as its not all resale red. Personally I love Volcano Yellow but from a quick resale point of view I would think its best to avoid and silver and black would be low on my own colour choice list. The pearlescent silver itself is nice but too many other cars like audi TT's etc.. are in silver so its quite stealth and black because its a pig to keep clean and you lose a lot of the details and shape of the car.

Colour is a very personal thing and can be car sensitive as well - whilst my favourite colour is a nice metallic blue I don't think it looks right on a 650S for some reason

From what's advertised currently this would be my choice
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Don't think you would go too far wrong with this and stand half a chance of just losing a SOR fee if sold before the end of the summer

I'm just thinking about getting into a 650s and I love it in black... I don't want to shout, so no loud colours, but black on a 650s is ok right??

the cars look a little shouty and I'd feel a little daft in a bright car - they get too much attention. Just sitting in it on the phone or at a services, car park, petrol station etc and you have pics taken and people asking to sit in it etc and it does stand out. For me that is just a bit too much hassle and adds to stress of ownership but some people may like that part of ownership so it's down to preference

I like black and think it's subtle and classy but some people may think it's not lairy enough

Black with orange or red calipers just looks right imho. Black is good for resale imho

I've had attention in cars for years and am really open and allow people to approach and sit in etc, I even took a drunk Stag down Deansgate Manchester when I had the roof down on the R8 GT when I had that, so I don't mind people gravitating towards special cars, doesn't bother me at all, I'm happy to share so to speak, but I'm not a stand out shouty type in regards colour, my personality and driving style do that enough, so black is great for me and with Orange as the under theme, I think it will work well!

Resale is an issue as I'm not one to throw caution to the wind in regards throwing money away on losses, so just wanted to make sure black wasn't a no no on a McLaren...

Black goes well on all cars I think.

Black alone is a bit bland but with the orange calipers and seat belts and so on I think it strikes a nice balance

I was in mclaren recently and had a look at all the cars and it's interesting to note there are so many different orange colours.

Colour is personal preference TBH. Black isn't a bad colour but just one I wouldn't personally choose on any car mainly for the reason its a bugger to keep clean, scratches easily and hides a lot of the details. Does look mean on a 650S though

If your heart is set up black my only observations would be :
Some contrast colours, brake calipers, seat belts stitching etc... help lift it
Don't waste a load of money on exterior carbon fibre as it doesn't show up on a black car
Get it fully detailed and a PPF to save the paintwork

Thanks for that pal, and Im definitely with you on the contrast, too much black is definitely not me, I'm not an 'all black everything' kinda guy, but do love the odd highlighted theme here and there, so Black with Orange Calipers, dark but not black wheels and full Black Alcantara Interior with Orange stitching and piping... drooling already!

Car is already dripping in all the Carbon extras it can have and has front PPF which is a bonus.

Cool. Sounds like its bought already then biggrin Enjoy. I'm sure you wont be disappointed. I've had mine over 2 years now which is a lifetime for me. The previous 2 supercars lasted 6 and 9 months in comparison but that's because its such an accomplished all round car
