Evening

On the way to mot it didn't sound great, possible misfire.

Mot tester said left bank was fine emissions on the right bank was jumping around and was difficult to get a steady reading.

It still passed.

Driving home once over 4000 revs it sound better less lumpy, but the right bank cel came on followed by the right cat. Limped back to garage.

The right cat was glowing (under its metal cover).

Let it cool for 30mins and limped home without a problem, it felt rough but no cels.

Car is a "2003 coupe update".

Will it accept obd ?

Sevenoaks is nearest dealer -10 miles.

Sensors ?
Coils ?
Cat itself

Neither sound cheap ....:

Will also post on lambo power

Thanks

My advice would be definitely don’t drive it.
The person who owned my Diablo before me drove it with the CAT warning light on.
Got sucked into the engine apparently............

I have subsequently needed a new cat on one side on the Diablo. Very expensive new but I managed to get a good second have one from the US on eBay.

Sounds like you have a misfire. First port of call would be to scan for codes and take it from there.

OBD scanner should tell you something - works fine with a generic tool on a Diablo, so a Murci should be even easier.

Sports cats cheaper and better. pain of a job to do, can be done without removing engine in a diablo so murci should be the same.
From memory the coils are only available as a set now.

Oh dear really sorry to hear that. Yes do not drive it under any circumstances. The coil pack on the left bank went on mine due to water ingress and Left cat caught fire bit's flying out the back...cell warning , you need luck for the bits of burnt out catalyst not to be sucked back in to the engine. I had both cats replaced with larini sports cats 200 cell and they were extremely loud. Too loud on day to day use 88db on idle 98db in the cabin under full acceleration and well over 110db outside. my girlfriend could hear me from inside the house from over 2 Miles away . The engine will need to be lifted and canted on an angle to fit them but does NOT need to come out!!!! . I think from memory if was 2200 for the cats and 4 hours to fit. New stock cats from Lamborghini are 4800+ vat each. I changed all the plugs all the coil packs at the same time . Total bill was 4200 ish. So not too bad at all considering the cost of a new engine .

Evening,

No codes !

The scanner seemed to connect ok, I went through all the menu options and it looked to be connected.

No stored
No pending

Which I presume makes sense as there are no cel lights on.

What is the next step?
Run the car just at idle to allow any codes to be generated ?

Aldous - I see you have now moved to Kent, you don't happen to commute past junction 2 or 3 of the M25.....

Thanks

Del

Did you pull out the spark plugs and have a look?

I had a lumpy misfire on a 500bhp daily last week (not Lambo) and it had cracked a spark plug under the pressure of acceleration. Quick change of plugs and it was all good again.

I had a tiny misfire for a week before the cat caught fire it was undetected by the sensors and warning lights until it blew ,no lights , but it wasn't reving out properly , I ignored it thought it might be dirty fuel, on a quiet run, both catalyst lights came on red, huge flames shot out of the exhaust followed by chunks of the catalyst matrix blown into the field. left bank shut down and carried on for a hundred yards on 6 cylinders. I stuttered to a halt and the rest is history. Get the car transported to Sevenoaks and don't mess about with it. That is my sincere advice . Why would you want to risk having bits of matrix sucked back into the engine just to see if the cel light might come on?? . 27k for a new engine. £180 for a tow to Sevenoaks....

I couldn’t agree more. I wouldn’t drive an inch, not even onto a trailer. The downside is just too great.

Gentlemen,

Whilst you are of course correct, getting it collected and taken to Sevenoaks is the most sensible, infact the only real option, but where is the fun in that.....

I have found the non working coil, swapping it from one cylinder to another and burning the end of my finger proved is was only this one.

Reid Performance in the US sell an "improved" set for $1200 plus postage and import taxes. Sevenoaks will offer a modest discount to assist, so hopefully £1,000 inc Vat.

Buying from Lamborghini gives me 11 identical spares.

Despite much searching I can not find the same coils being used on any other car. Unless somebody has done a conversion to the 4 pin later Audi coils these are the only options we have I am afraid.

The 3 pins coils are expensive but the wiring loom is cheap, the 4 pin coils are cheap but the wiring loom is expensive !
