My 997 had the same issue, poor hot starts. Issue is the alternator cable corrodes and goes too high resistance when hot. Cure is new cable for £100 fitted. Happy days when that one was sorted!

My current 997 used to do that too. Well known problem.

To update the thread, I planned to ring the seller yesterday or today but have been too busy with work. Might get a chance later in the week.

Hi
My car just clicked when trying to start, as discussed, I understand it's the solenoid that suffers from build up of dust from the clutch
The good news is the starter motor is a Bosch item and are available for about £400 new, they can be removed without the need for removing the engine, understand it consist of removing the oil pipes and working blindfold removing the fixing bolts

There is so much hands on knowledge within the PH community from the likes of Resso , Larry 5.2 , bell James , Ferruccio etc , about how to maintain a Murcielago properly , yet without paying out more than we need to .

Should we start a new thread where we can pool our collective knowledge of interchangeable Audi/VW parts , companies that can rebuild dampers (especially the front ones ! ) , recondition starter motors and solenoids etc ?

I would certainly find this useful .... the last service bill a few months ago , which was from a totally trustworthy Main Dealer ( and I discussed each job before , during and after ) that I know well , was not easy on the wallet .

Would you be happy to contribute to such a thread please ?

OK for me though there are already such threads on the Lamborghini-talk and LamboPower forums. Possibly a PH version which has a more UK relevance?

JapanRed...... back on topic again now , I totally understand your point about wanting to sort out the mortgage first .
When that is done , you might want to look at the many different Murcie variants that have been produced , rather than just head for the cheapest currently advertised .

There were many subtle and not so subtle alterations made over the course of the 2001 to 2010 production run , and all these changes do not necessarily follow a logical chronological pattern

For example , even the earliest Roadsters had the upgraded braking system from the Gallardo , while their equivalent Coupes did not . To convert to the updated braking system is not cheap and might mean going for a Roadster or a newer Coupe might be more cost effective

Another example , is the fact that the LP640 has 4 primary ECUs , while the earlier cars only have one . As these cars get older , and components inevitably fail , the replacement costs of 4 ECUs will be an additional burden ( Also when I had to replace the single Ignition pack on a Countach QV in March 2002 , Sant Agata only had one remaining on their shelves , so it’s not just a question of cost )

The Murcie is a true full fat Supercar ...... get the right roads , in the right conditions , with little traffic , and they are simply SENSATIONAL ,
I pick each and everyone of my drives very carefully , and each one has been brilliant , something to remember .

Counterpoint to this was my drive up for its MOT this spring , truly horrendous with roadworks , traffic+++ , and I couldn’t believe how awful it was . Late evening drive back was brilliant .... just illustrates this needs space and width to be enjoyed .

I believe that there is now a book on the Lamborghini Murcielago , which describes the model variants , and the joys and tribulations of ownership .

Go in with the right expectations , having done your homework , and you won’t be disappointed

Thanks Carspath that’s very informative. I think I am going to pass on this for now. The mortgage will be paid off by next summer which means I don’t have that long to wait. I was probably looking at this one for all the wrong reasons (it initially looking like a bargain as opposed to the actual car I want).

Just a few points on the Yellow Murci, I looked at an 03 plate in Milton Keynes in 2015 before I bought mine , don't know if this was the same one as it was on a private plate F11UKA.. It was cat c I think from memory and it had had a Speedo change early in its life ,the original owner used it as a daily . The damage was to the rear right quarter and suspension arms and side air intake but was repaired to a reasonable standard, the fit on the rear bumper was average and the paint match average . When I was looking at it it was for sale at £75k owner nice enough chap but it hadnt been out of the garage at all in the 2-3 years previously. Then I just though it would need an engine out rebuild , valves weren't done ,brakes were on the original 355mm discs and pitted so didnt have the 380mm on later cars and the shocks were leaking and it was on the original 1st edition pzeros with the red lettering so waaaaaay out of date. Now it may have had a lot of 're commissioning work done since ?? ... Hope that helps.

Can’t be same car. Just checked MOT history on this car and the mileages all add up.

For clarity – the car that was on Autotrader c7th Sept. advertised by a private seller at £110K which initiated this thread is the car now at the dealership at £130K per the link.

Was that Murci in Leigton buzzard/Milton Keynes? I remember trying to view that one and the owner really being really short on questions I wanted answered and inspections that I wanted undertaken - prompted red flags in my mind, I went else where after that. Wonder if that car got sold or he still has it?

Bloody dealers buying cheap and selling for profit...ought to be a law against that.

Yes it was, I just bit the bullet and demanded to see it , but even that took two attempts and it's immobiliser was not functioning so couldn't start it the first time I saw it , then i couldnt drive it as it didnt have a current MOT ,I just though nah too much like hard work and it was a cat c or d can't remember which . That car had major mystery on its mileage as he told me it was a daily driver the it had 30000 miles in the first few years then a new Speedo and I just lost interest after that .

I may know where that car now is. If it is the same one then it's at an indy specialist rotting away in a corner out in the elements un covered. Flat tyres and green moss and grime growing on it as it hasn't been touched and moved in 3+ years. Its a shame to see it that way even if it is a bit of a bent lemon.
