Agreed - SHITE badge on Miura (and original Countach is suspect)!!!

Espada however has handed badges - different left and right and they're ice cool!!!

At last, a thread for true kindred souls. To me the adage of ‘most beautiful’ comes down to mood on the day, it has to be Italian, it ought to originate from the 70’s and let’s just say its one from.

Miura
LP400
Khamsin
Mangusta
Espada

Many thanks Zero much enjoyed the Espada passage, great stuff.

I’m planning a trip to the chaps below over the next few days after a couple of recent discussions, sans Mrs of course

The loot is in place so we shall see, Zero you may have just parted me from a nice little chunk off the old folding!

Stop showing off...

Why did you want a Series 3? Like it's of any immediate importance, but I'm torn beteween the design purity of the Series 2 and the technical development in the Series 3. I like the headlights of the 3 but I'm not so sure about that perforated grille. Also (and you can tell I'm on a slippery slope) what are the servicing, spares and running costs like?

I sat in one a couple of years ago, hoping it wouldn't fit. But it did...

Also I'd like to add Urracco and Silhouette to the list above if poss.

TOTAL kindred spirit! (I prefer Ghibli to Khamsin though).

I'm the only person I know that identified the yellow Mangusta in the Kylie video... but then I can spot continuity cock-ups in Heartbeat when they present a MkIII Zodiac hub cap as forensic evidence of an Austin Cambridge's part in an accident... SAD???

Yertis:

S3 for mechanical progress. Granted S2 dash is nicer, S1 wheels to die for but, at the end of the day, I believe cars are for drivin' not starin' at. And, to be honest, the S3 wraparound aircraft dash with big buttons feels like you're driving a plane.

Running costs could be shirt-loss scary.

Buying tip:
I always swore I'd get a proper, complete one and NEVER entertain 'a project'. Dash switches are £70 on e-Bay ... speedo £500 .... For God's sake, buy a complete one and pay top whack if it's right. It's cheaper in the long run. Probably common advice for any car but ESPECIALLY true of Italian classics.

Servicing:
I have a splendid chap called Jim look after mine - can't think of anyone else who'd "just happen to have..." a dissy cap (it has two) in his shed. Very lucky to find Jim - he's great and he loves the car and the fact that it's used. He's on 'our side' as a technician to the obsessed.

Fixing it:
I have no fear of mechanical failure. One thing Lamborghini is good for is mechanical stuff, old Ferruccio was quite particular about these matters.

Other running tips:
(a) I drive it quite hard but ONLY when all the temps/pressures are stablised so it gets proper, regular exercise. It does it (and me!) good. Oh yes.

(b) if the Italians can't supply what I want when I want it, I have it made. Not as daft/flash as it sounds. Compare paying a monkey for hand-made stainless exhaust parts NOW with the Italian telephone number and vague availability for 'genuine parts'. I thought their price for the exhaust must be Lire then I remembered they're in Yerp.

(c) when ordering bits, FFS don't tell someone it's for a Lamborghini if you can avoid it. Nought(s) get added to the price. Quote a Girling or Magneti Marelli part number. (Good tip for TVR and Lotus too.)

Without question, the best place to go for servicing is either to find a Jim or, failing that, talk to Modena Cars UK in Wycombe. They're top blokes and the company was born from a guy's frustration with being ripped off when having his exotica fixed.

I always considered that TVR ownership was my apprenticeship for Lambo ownership. Nothing shocks me.

MPG isn't a running cost I know much about but I'm on first name terms with a lot of gas stations. I prefer blissful ignorance and always have done.

zeroshift, would you consider a 350/400 GT (perhaps in Interim form) an interesting alternative to the Espada ?
They seems to be good cars too.

Oh yeah! 350GT? Would I ever!!!

(Much knee rubbing)

Also checked out Vario-Rob's profile - even more kindredder (except for Porsche bit). DEAUVILLE - now yer talking! I do love a maverick vehicle (not to be confused with Ford Maverick )

I like Longchamps too - and not just because they have Mk1 Granada headlights.

(Much knee rubbing AND rustling of waterproof jacket....)

Actually I need to make a correction about most beautiful car ever - Miura Jota on road, Lola T70 MkIIIB on track.

If I ever get a Lola T70, you'll know I've made it. I've got a scratch-built 1:8 Sid Taylor/Denny Hulme car in my office. Why oh why does one only 8 times as big cost 150 times as much??? It's NOT FAIR!

Erm, talking about Lola if you're looking for a Lola T290 I know someone who will soon sell his, completely rebuilt to orignal specs (ex Filipinetti). Not quite a T70 but at Le Mans Classic they were doing quite well too.

I only have eyes for the T70.

As an aside, I once outqualifed a T70 (and nearly a Chevron B16) in the damp at Spa in a Cobra. A proud day indeed. Here we are between them on the grid.

What I'd really like is that Cobra motor in a T70...

Well I’ve always been a Kyalami man myself, Longchamp, pah! As for the Porsche a veritable nuclear bunker of a car and a perfect antidote for somebody on the cusp of entering the world of 70’s Italianate.

Did you see the road legal T70 H&H put under the gavel last year and was guided arroung £85k? As far as I’m aware it never sold so I’m sure they could point you in the right direction. Now just imagine that thug at Pistonfest, I would imagine a few of my Stuttgart fancying brethren with their optional light weight carbon fibre fag lighter options getting all hot and bothered.

There was a LHD Espada S1 at Cheffins auction a couple of summers back having come from the Gulf via Japan, not only was she white with white together with ‘THAT’ dashboard. She had the must have a good helping of sand in the foot well too! As it was the mellifluous one wouldn’t even get close to turning over and sold for about £4k and was bought by a dealer by the name of John Browne. A bit of a choker as he did indeed get it to turn pretty easily and traded it on for mid teens as far as I can recall.

The Mangusta in question might be the one for sale in the link I posted. Any one for an

Check the urls I posted along the way in this thread . . .

I did not put in the piccies because one could seriously get wet . . .

Zeroshift must be glad not to have me for a neighbour: I would drink all his coffee! or spoil his petrol.

Morning Zero, my Golf broke down and the Honda has a flat. I wonder . . .

All this talk of fancy italian tin and you`ve missed out the Islero! Truly stunning in the flesh, particularly in a subtle dark blue or green. Oh, and what about the first Quattroporte?

Interestingly, I recently had a look at a Khamsin but the citroen bits were a tad ropey so I declined (We`ve had SM`s in the family so have form). There is definitely a sixties/seventies Maser` somewhere in my future though...

vario-rob - the T70 that H&H had up for auction last year had an interesting history but hardly had any Lola left in it, hence the almost reasonable price.

What's a Herald doing in this thread FFS?

My guess movie-plotwise is that the chap with the Ghibli seduces the teenage daughter...

My kinda thread
I love 70's Italian exotica. Personally the Ghibli does it for me - has to be the coupe though as I think the Spyder loses the beautiful lines (Infact i believe almost all coupes are better looking than their drophead equivalents - can anyone think of an exception?)
I'd also add to my lust list:
Indy (basically an updated Ghibli, marginally less beautiful)
Espada (makes the cars in Thunderbirds look dull)

Oh, and I agree that the Miura logo is an absolute shocker

I'll think I'll treat myself to a Ghibli one of these days
