Portman imported 14 RHD into the UK. That's what I was told back in the day.

What about other RHD markets ?

TBH I don't know the answer but I have heard a number of times that there were only 14 RHD 88 1/2/ in the world.

I was told not that long ago that there were 120 cars of every type sold new in the UK and yes I think 14 of the 88.5 cars and half of them were Anniversaries. The same person (who should have known) thought there were only 35-45 examples still left here as most had been exported to sunnier climes over the years. Isn,t there a website that tells you how many are taxed or SORN? Someone asked about talking to Carlo at Top Gear Cars, not a bad idea as he know where lots of cars are buried as he buried them. After that Simon Furlonger seams to be your man.

Please remember that Portland had the world franchise for rhd cars. There were 14 88.5 cars one written off in France.
Tge rough rule was there were10% of ferrari lambo production came to the UK. So thre were about 220 CT'S of all types as in the late 80's there was a massive price bible here so cars were sucked in. Rhd and LHD. There are about 13-16 QV's left here according to checks made by Harry Medcalf. There is no pile of 'buried' cars. A lot are in Japan with one collection of about 7. Couple of other collectors in Germany with 3+ cars.
According to Carlo there about 120 of all types left in the UK. A lot have gone to Australia/Malaysia etc in recent years due to the weak £ they won't be back unless prices go crazy here as it costs 30% plus shipping to re import a car outside the EU.

The source I was quoting was David Price. 10% seems about right as there 1200 built in total I believe and I thought 120 delivered but I think most of those are long gone!

Slightly off topic but why ? tax has been previously paid within the EU / UK, to my knowledge you do not claim this back on export on a used car do you ?

Thanks, you've confirmed what I thought and had heard, especially re Portman being the sole global dealer for RHD. So my 88 1/2 is indeed a rare beast and even rarer in the UK

There were just over 2000 CT's made not 1200. Between the qv and anni there were about 1300 the anni I think was 670
Sadly even if tax paid in UK if exported no longer a uk eu car. If take to use abroad and don't export can bring back subject to conditions. Sadly if exported then is 10% import on total including shipping then VAT currently at 20%.
Tried to avoid that to bring a 512 bb back from HK and couldn't find a way around it

Production numbers concur with info I have although no one will probably ever get an absolute number as apparently the factory were not great at record keeping

Errr that's super cheap £ 8'000 to £10'000 is the normal price for QV clutch

The release bearing alone is over £ 5'000 plus engine out

If someone will do it for £4'000 with bearing and new clutch go for it

Yes that is how we were pricing it last week as we are in the middle of a Anniversary restoration and have just took the clutch out.

The parts prices are ridiculous.

While Im on it, would anyone be interested in seeing a restoration thread? Im taking hundreds of photos and its quite interesting seeing it change.

Absolute number? - yes, I agree, but in my 2.5 and 3.0 V8 research I find the factory were excellent at record keeping, although the early records were hand written and prone to the occasional error/confusion. Remember too that damaged cars were sometimes "repaired" or "converted" whilst retaining the original vin (nudge wink say no more) so the interpretation of the records is essential.

Regarding the 88.5 I regret I cannot appreciate the excitement about (the rarity of) some ugly side strakes! Please explain!
