No, it was definitely not a Countach. The local double glazing salesman got the white Countach in Chigwell as a prize.

I recall a story from the papers when these were new where a young chap living at home has saved up and bought one new.

No idea why that should stick in my mind but it's always been there. Wonder if it's one of these?
I think the guy in question that you are thinking of purchased a red Jalpa rather than a Silhouette, am sure it was featured on the front cover of 'Car' magazine which I have filed away somewhere safe!!!

Was a B reg car so probably 1984 ish.

Here is a pic of 40052, the other silhouette on the roads in the UK. It was returned to it's orginal colour of Rame Colorado over the winter, the only silhouette made in this colour.

Good to see 40010 out and about. Impressive in black. This is the first RHD car originally Oro Longchamps, the Convoy Car and 1976 Earls Court show car.

I think your mixing it up with the one B510WYE but that one had a black hide

I don't know of any Jalpa registred with B348WYE yet.

I recall CAR magazine doing a story on the first Jalpa, if I recall correctly - and this is a very long time ago - it was bought by a teacher? was silver? around 26,000 GBP? and trailered back to Britain? Am sure someone has kept the original article somewhere ...

Some confusion here over the reg number, luckily I spoke to the owner at another event at a pub near Donington Park and took a few photographs which will confirm the colour and registration number of the Jalpa, as far as I can remember from the 'Car' magazine article he did indeed drive it back from Italy. I need to dig out that particular issue from the archives because it was quite some time ago.

think the guy was a postman, saying he was the poorest new Lamborghini owner in the world - he had not gone on holidays for years to save up

After I bought my Jalpa, I didn't have enough money for food that week.
I was an articled clerk and I'd started on £6,250 a year.
I had to raid the jar that I deposited the coppers that I'd got in change over the years to eat.
I thought I'd bought it 50/50 with a mate but the October 1987 crash hit before he had paid me his half and he no longer had the money.

And you try telling the young people of today......

OK then, right colour but wrong reg number, the guy in question owned a red Lamborghini Jalpa 3.5, reg number RHV 262Y. I chatted to him on a number of occasions at Lamborghini meetings including this one which was at a pub near Castle Donington in 1984. For info this Jalpa has a black interior.

This particular Jalpa was definitely featured in 'CAR' magazine because I seem to recollect that it was a very interesting story to read, though am struggling to find that particular magazine to post on here. Will keep digging!

In the meantime, here are a few photographs I took of the Jalpa and the owner at this particular meet in 1984.

There should be a good turnout of cars at Sharnbrook Hotel [near Bedford] on 3rd July as there is an LCUK timeline to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ferruccio Lamborghini. I don't know how many models there will be but 40006 will be representing the Silhouette...
