MP4 12C Deprecation and Brand Value

650 will bolster the values of 12C in much the same way as the 458 did for the 430 IMO. plus the availability of warranty extensions will further strengthen 12C values, at £120k they are a complete bargain.
I doubt the 650 will be good news for residuals. Exhibit A:http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...
Selling demonstrators from main dealers already!
With the 458 bolstering the 430, there was a large difference in retail price between the two models and the 458 traded at or above list for quite a while. Doesn't look to me that the same will be true for the 650, which I think is an epic misjudgement from McLaren. Don't know why they didn't do an updated 12C, loading extra spec for a late-life model rather than trying to do a completely new car on the cheap.
As a 12C owner, I can't speak highly enough about the product but it seems to me they are having a few teething troubles on the marketing side. I do hope it goes well for them but I am almost certain there will be a lot of money lost on 650 by customers. Again.
Edit: for older 12C coupes different rules may apply. They are far enough away to not really be affected by the 650. For Spider owners and anyone who bought in the last 18 months (I.e. moi) it is more of an issue. I don't regret buying though. I'll keep it a while, get my use out of it, safe in the knowledge that it is very difficult to buy as good a driving experience as a 12C for anything like what I paid. In a few years I hope my car will sit well enough.

Sorry for the thread ressurection but I am looking for a Spyder for a friend.
List was £195 without options
2013 models trading around the £170 mark
So, 2 years from now the 2013 model will have a trade in value of around £95k?
The 2012 coupe is selling privately for just under £100 so in 2 years time I would expect these to be going for around the £75-90k
Is that about right or well wide of the mark?
Am always a bit wary commenting on values as I don't like to be perceived to be talking up my car's value.. and albeit having a bit of a vested interest, I have some difficulty seeing 12C coupes going below 100k anytime soon, much less spiders while the majority of 430 coupes are listed from 70-80k. I know a friend sold a 10k mile early 2012 coupe for ~125k last november for example. While the 650 certainly will put a dent on the 12C prices the earlier cars have fallen to a point (110-130k) where enough people are interested in a car with the level of performance of the 12C and the depreciation does level off to something a bit more reasonable. That being said I admit I would hate to have to ask for a trade bid on my car at the moment.....
These car's don't seem to be sticking to the 50% residual after 36 months rule, they seem to be losing money faster than that.

Mmmmm remind us which car you have recently purchased And you said my Lambo wouldn't hold its value Had several very good trade bids on it only this week but it would be rude to quote how much I've madeEdited by GRBF430F1 on Thursday 10th April 19:18

I normally have a faily good idea about prices but £ 260k for a 650 spyder - are you serious?. Who in their right mind will pay that for a McLaren when you can get a 12C Spyder for almost half that?

Just the 5 in the UK. Ultra rare supercar !
Is it not possible that red is rare as no one wanted a red one when ordering ? I could order one in pink with orange leather but I wouldn't expect to sell it at a premium. And I do not believe you have had any dealer bids better than what you paid for it, sorry.

i believe that most of the five ended-up heavily discounted and dumped on hire companies

Why did you bother getting a trade bid?? I seem to remember you saying Rybrook had agreed to buy the car back from you for the same as you paid for it? Or was that just artistic licence(ie BS) Edited by GRBF430F1 on Thursday 10th April 19:18
