Can't believe I managed to get through a thread about mclaren without reading loads of hyperbole ...
Why does everybody say the warranty is a must? This would make me nervous if planning to own a car for 10+ years as I usually traget(until what age can it be extended?)
I think its a consequence of stuff like leaky gearboxes needing replacement rather than repair at huge cost. Why does everybody say the warranty is a must? This would make me nervous if planning to own a car for 10+ years as I usually traget(until what age can it be extended?)
I guess it will be interesting to see how much people are spending on running early cars once they hit high double-digit mileage and 6+ years of age (so hopefully should have some datapoints soon).

Warranty is a must as McLaren's parts pricing indicates that everything they make is forged from Unicorn Horn shavings.....there are plenty of known issues on the 12c/650s that whilst aren't major issues (misting of front and rear lights, door locking modules, Iris issues, door AC LED units) the cost of replacing them is eye opening to say the least.............which is before you take into account if your gear box starts to leak...........$$$$.Why does everybody say the warranty is a must? thanks - probably not the cars for me then as I do plan on keeping a car at this price point for a long time (ie will be out of warranty eventually) and do high mileage.

Low volume car = expensive parts unfortunately and that goes for the itty bitty stuff like aircon controls and such in the 12c/650. The warranty is extendable to 12years.Jules360 said:

Let's try this then...
Can anyone discuss the merits of a carbon tub in no less than 2000 words?
McLarens have carbon tubs ????????Can anyone discuss the merits of a carbon tub in no less than 2000 words?
Mind you, so does the Alfa 4C. Can't be that special really.

I think the same can be said for any supercar really. I think warranty on them is a must. Edited by Never you mind on Tuesday 14th March 09:51

And ironically you are continuing to derail the thread.
As another poster said, it's nice to have a McLaren thread with no arguing, so I will leave you to fight RL's corner until your heart's content. I will not respond to you again.
Here's a tip, telling people who actually own these cars how to post will never end well for you.
You are welcome to the last word, should you feel the need.

Guys I'm slightly confused as to how this has derailed into a slanging match and whether I'm being accused of not posting correctly??
I'll put this back on topic for you OP. Buy whatever car you want to the spec that you want and get a warranty chucked in. These cars, as in every modern supercar, have expensive electronics and parts that if they go wrong can be eye watering to repair. Personally I wouldn't get Silver as a supercar should be loud and obnoxious (Yes, I have a white one but that's different )It's not your posting style BTW. It's another poster that hasn't posted in your thread.

I will have the last word, thanks. The sentence I highlighted above shows me everything I need to know about you, and how you are no different to the RL/Juno bickering in the other thread. Why on earth does what car I drive have any bearing on what I can or can not post on an internet forum? Oh yeah, it doesn't. You arrogant .As another poster said, it's nice to have a McLaren thread with no arguing, so I will leave you to fight RL's corner until your heart's content. I will not respond to you again.

I quite like silver as well as darker colours and am not a huge fan of the bright colours (green, orange, yellow) - all different, but the majority seems to prefer "loud" colours
Has to be Black Specced a 720 in black and suddenly it looked good - will look at a car in the metal/test drive once they get a demonstrator at the dealer in May

Black on a 720 does help disguise the intakes below the headlights Every other aspect of the car I love!Specced a 720 in black and suddenly it looked good - will look at a car in the metal/test drive once they get a demonstrator at the dealer in May
I'd order one if I had the cash.
