I like the LT and have been looking into buying one, but i must admit that after the introduction of the 720 it now feels like one of the last 1st generation McLarens and as there is nothing special about the 1st generation McL that is not improved in the new cars, so it is never going to "the last" of an era kind of car. It is great that McL keeps improving its model lineup, but it does very little for the earlier models. Ferrari, Porsche and Aston are enjoying a bit of a late summer resurrection for some of their outgoing models due to the fact that they have only embarking on the "new era" now where McLaren started one generation ago.
The 675LT is a special car and I think history will be very kind to it. It represents the best of the P11 which was the first model line for the new McLaren Automotive which, in part because of how good the 675LT is, is quickly joining the upper echelon of the supercar world. The 720S is amazing - right after I drove it I hopped into my 675LT Spider for a drive and it was just so DIFFERENT to the 720S. The 675LT feels so charmingly old-school in a way I don't think we'll ever see again in the McLaren lineup going forward. Yes those new cars will be spectacular but they won't have the cockpit layout of the P11, they won't have the analog tachometer of the P11 and they won't have the looks and same type of ride as the P11, and especially of the 675LT variant of P11 which I think looks the best of the bunch in both coupe and spider form. Consider all that and the fact that there were only 500 coupes and 500 spiders and I think you've got a car that history will look quite fondly on long after its performance has been eclipsed. I fear that if I sold mine now, to pay for the 720S, that I would very much regret it in 10-20 years just as much as I'd regret not buying the earliest 720S I could. As the brand grows the nostalgia for looking back and feeling its roots will grow too and it will be magnified by what a superbly-great driving experience the 675LT is. A rising tide raises all boats.

really makes me wonder how digital and detached the 720S is going to feel

It'll be whatever the software makes it. We're at the point with a lot of cars now that the software defines the character of the car to a greater or lessor extent.

The 675 LT does seem to be very special. I think I may have read that you are considering selling your turbo McLarens Flemke? Do you think you might keep maybe one, perhaps the LT or the MSO HS though?

Will keep the HS, because McLaren were kind enough to offer one to me and it would be rude and ungrateful of me to flip it. Plan to sell the other two, just haven't got around to it yet.

Not much different from any other modern high electronic sports car which means almost any major manufacturer's product since 2011. Mclaren are definitely getting better at the software calibration as they get more experience with producing cars with each one's integration of electronics being more refined.

My point was after driving the 720S getting into the 675LT felt a little like going back in time because of the interior layout and the electronics. They're both awesome cars and, from a driving perspective, neither of them feels digital or detached.

Totally understand, whilst the HS looks (when comparing it to the more simple lines of the LT) are somewhat challenging to these eyes, it is more special and of course a far more rare car and your analogy of GT3 (LT) to GT3 RS (HS) makes I guess the decision on what to keep easier for you. How often do you get to drive the HS?

Talking of Porsche's though, whilst you may have fallen a little out of love with the brand(?), have you considered enquiring about the 991.2 GT3 manual? I thought that might be a car for you, notwithstanding that you've also previously said you have too many cars and too little time?...

Challenging to the eyes? No way... look at this beauty!! More importantly the HS has a little extra zip over the normal 675LT. The engine seems to build up revs faster and more smoothly than the stated 13HP difference would lead you to believe. It's a wonderful car, amazingly fun to drive and grip galore at decent speeds!

Sorry the lt looks far better than the HS,the HS looks like some tuner has got hold of it and sat a spoiler on the back that just does not flow with the car. Each to there own and all that.

Its funny how people are comparing the lt to the 720 and all the value nonsense, plummeting prices etc,sad really.Just get out and enjoy them,i wont be getting a 720,waiting for something better i hope.

I think as I get ever older I look for more and more simplicity in everything not just car design. I do like the idea that in its driving dynamic that the HS is an LT+. yes

That looks like a dog's breakfast to me! frown Just way too complicated, the wing is totally unnecessary from a styling POV, I love volcano orange and had it on my own car, but the "racing car" style stripes and coloured areas just look "halfords" to me

Love my mclaren but there is a disturbing tendency for extreme bad taste among owners that I've noticed... sort of TVR crossed with max power gtr

Still, as my mum says it would be boring if we all liked the same thing!

I'd agree, far too much going on.

The wing isn't there for the sake of styling.

I'm fine if it doesn't float your boat. But I have 3 other very-conservatively painted McLarens (including a 675LT Spider), and I really liked the look of the Garage 59 GT3 livery that this is based on, so I decided to try it on this car. The carbon fiber parts get washed out into muddy grey in photographs but in person I think the gloss finished carbon (and especially on the upper parts; bonnet, roof and doors) look quite nice against the white borders and volcano orange - especially with the black wheels.

Sure the HS looks a little busy, but really no more so than a stickered up GT3 RS or all those ferraris with random bare carbon fibre parts and two tone paint jobs
