Trade prices for 2011-2012 Coupes are £75-85k. That's a fact. The 650 and 570 have made the 12c obsolete. Same will happen to the 650 once the 720s and 570 Spider are out and about. So to answer the OP, yes you will lose your shirt because the honeymoon is over.
I know of 3 people who have had trade offer's / sales on 12C's this month (April 2017). One friend decided he wanted a 650S and got his money back from a dealer after 3 months of 12C ownership. That was well over 6 figures. The others both had 6 figure offers from main McLaren dealers.

Alastair Bols does not buy stock, he does SOR at around £4-5k he currently has 5 x 12C's for sale with prices varying from £118 - £150k. Even the cheapest car with a discount and warranty purchase would net the owner £110k+

There are 21 12C's on autotrader, if you discount the LHD and high mileage cars then prices start at £115k for a low spec coupe rising to £145k for a spider.

There is no way anyone would sell a 12C trade to a McL dealer when Alastair does such a good job anyway. Prices bottomed out in December 15 - January 16 at £100k and have been creeping up slowly since, yes very slowly up but certainly not down.

So to answer the OP I don't think you will lose your shirt. There will be no 720S spider for quite some time and 720's will not be widely available which will ensure other McLaren prices should stay firm, especially with a specced up price of £240-270k.

Top colour and spec for resale, but September was a long time ago and things have now changed. The 540/570 is readily available, and demand and prices for the 12c have weakened.

And this discussion was about trade bids for the 12c, so your £126k sale price is irrelevant. The trade would not pay more than £100k for this top spec/colour car with just 12knmiles. Everything else would get a lesser bid. Fact.
September was a long time ago???? Haaaaa.

The 540c/570s was as readily available then, as they are now.

And as for trade bids, if you bothered to read what people post rather than just trying to extract every negative possible, you would have read that I was offered £114k by the trade.

I would be able to accept your postings if you actually quantified if with actual facts instead of your own misguided opinions.........as an actual buyer and seller of McLarens recently, my postings are based on my actual real world experience.

May be you were one of the early adopters of the 12c and lost a small fortune, hence the bitterness? At least it might explain your postings.......but to keep posting drivel that has been contradicted by actual owners, dozens of times over...............is, well, a bit sad mate.

Oh dear back tracking quicker than an Italian tank regiment rofl

I just love it when someone makes themselves look like a chump. silly

The £126k is very relevant as its a FACT of the sale price, which justifies the £114k trade bid as dealer probably would of advertised it at £129,999

Can I invest in whatever you have got as yesterday it was worth £75k and today its worth £100k. Not a bad return overnight.

In FACT if you can find a 12C for £75k can you buy me 2 please

Ok let's hear the facts.
An owner on here is selling his 650 coupe - m33ufo. It's up for £145k I believe. Let him tell us what bids he has received from the trade. I am guessing no higher than £120k.

It's much easier to rave about a £210k car if you have bought it for £120k...

Your argument was just made to look a lot weaker by using what is a complete anomaly as an example.

M33UFO's car is being advertised for much cheaper than it should be, he was asked about this recently and he has his reasons, he wants a quick sale so he can buy something else.

If it was possible to buy 650s in a colour that I wanted for 145k I would have bought one a while ago.

I dont suppose you can find me a Huracan for 120k?

Okay more facts then....

Two trade bids for my 2013 high spec 12C last month, £118K & £119K from independents, plus £120K P/X from a Mc dealer.

A basic spec 2011 model with 20K + miles on might dip under £100K trade, but where £75K comes from Lord only knows. Substantiate your claim sir.

OP - I've had more enjoyment from my 12C than any other car I've owned and am looking to go the 650 route as well. It's too easy to get hung up on hearsay and rumours here. Buy one, join the owners group and enjoy it in good health.

Why is it whenever I bring forward facts that you don't agree with, you come up with excuses?

There have been numerous examples of poor values:

1. M33ufo's car which is a 2014 650s coupe - asking £145k. The fact that he is advertising it privately proves that either the trade does not want it or that they have bid him very low.
2. The black 12c A.Bols was advertising recently for £99k
3. The mclaren orange car that some suspected was an ex hire car for £102k
4. The VR car that one of the main Ferrari dealers has been listing for over a year at £114k and is still unsold!

You counter this with the ODD prestine, fully loaded (£210k plus when new) car, in McLaren Orange (someone must have stated that this is the holy grail colour), and take huge satisfaction that it may be worth £120k. Bravo - case closed. You have proved that the 12c/650s is the most desirable supercar on the planet and retains value magnificently.

Nope, all you've done is searched "McLaren" and sort by "Lowest First" and reported your findings as indicative of the market, which they aren't. The like to quote bottom line examples and conveniently ignore the mid range and higher range examples, ALL of which form a market, not your carefully selected samples.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Your statement is incorrect - I always advertise my cars privately. That's my preference.

Let's hope the rest of your assumptions aren't as inaccurate.

I haven't invited bids from the trade...in fact the opposite. I wouldn't anticipate receiving a trade bid I'd accept, but yes, I have received a trade bid which was substantially more than £120k.

So again, incorrect!

You don't have to justify your position to anyone let alone TP321, its your business.
Pretty poor form to drag you in as an example IMHO. Good luck with the sale, I'm sure at the price it will sell quickly as its far too cheap.

Yep....truly great car. I seem to have been caught out by a new car arrival which was a bit of a surprise - due end of May. If I don't sell the McLaren by then I'll keep it and put the new car straight back to the dealer. It's not really a McLaren replacement anyway but I have limited garage space.

I don't want to put you on the spot, I was merely using your car as an example of how McLaren residuals are poor. You may not have invited trade bids, but from my experience, that doesn't stop them from making a bid. My £120k figure was a cheeky low ball, but your trade bid cannot have been higher than £130k.

Good luck with the sale.

McLaren residuals are not poor. 60% £126k of list £210k after 5 years is pretty reasonable IMHO. People can try and talk them down as much as they want but the fact is after the initial hit the MP4 12C took from an appalling launch by McLaren it has actually recovered reasonably strong.

Have McLaren learnt their lesson ?
I say yes and the proof will be in the pudding with 720S which will be such a roaring success its likely to trade at a premium, raising the whole brand even more.

Just like Ferrari and Lamborghini started somewhere in years to come early McLaren with low production volumes will be collector items

Yes the 12c launch was a mess and as a result fatally wounded residuals. We will have to see how the 720s fares.
