McLaren on track days
Discussion
Has any other 12C owner had an issue with their car bottoming out at the Nurburgring? I took mine to the Ring earlier this year and had to replace the air vanes attached to the under floor of the car after it bottomed out at high speed through Flugplatz, Schwedenkreuz and then the Karussell.
Also, do any of you recommend 'normal', 'sport' or 'track' for the handling setting on bumpy circuits such as the Ring?

Interesting, i seem to have the car bottom out at different places than you, i get it most often at fuchsrohre/ex muhle and pfanzgarten. I'm not running particularly quickly though at about 8 mins btg
The air vanes are essentially consumables yes so they get replaced quite often. It always sounds worse than it actually is though as I don't believe the car is bottoming out as badly as you think it is as the rubber things at the front wheels basically take the bulk of the hit. I personally run on track mode at the 'ring even if I do think the car is too firm as the tyre liners get wrecked otherwise. At the cost of those things I'd accept the car being a bit too firm than ideal.

On any GP style /flat track, you'd easily be better off in track mode on the 12c imo and Bedford is as flat as they come. The ring is probably the only track I've been to where there's even a debate on the modes.
P.S watch out for the noise police too there esp if you have the sports exhaust.

Hm so just to clarify we are referring to the upside-down snorkel items that bring in air and re-direct it to the brakes? May have to hit my dealer up about where they have gone!
No, you're probably referring to the brake cooling ducts equipped on the ceramic braked cars (I think). The iron brake cars do not have those ducts.Gassing Station | McLaren | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
