"First 100 cars"....."future classic".....
Some people have this remarkable ability to believe some tripe or simply are trying to talk up their cars.
Its actually a fact. I Myself have been approached by a McLaren dealer who has a client who wants to buy my car I also know some dealers who have been asked to keep their eyes out for a good example of the first 100. At the moment they are not going for a premium but they are becoming more desirable. However my post was related to prices in general and not this topic as whenever this topic gets mentioned someone posts about how ridiculous it is so I don't mention it. However I have experience of it happening. I am sure you will retort with what a load of rubbish but I don't really care what you think as I know what I have heard and I know what I have been offered. Some people have this remarkable ability to believe some tripe or simply are trying to talk up their cars.

Good for you and I'm glad you don't care enough what I think to reply I have a sub 100 vin car for a rather long time and have heard (mainly by other owners of them) say they are 'extra special' for whatever reason and imho it's still as rubbish when it was first touted in 2011.
I had a MP4-12C chassis #34 which I part exchanged against a 650S at the end of 2015.
The McLaren dealer said the trade value of my car (10k miles) was £95k and advertised it at £110k, so maybe it sold for a little less.
The dealer didn't place any emphasis on my car being any more desirable because it was one of the first 100.
Having said that, the build quality on the one I had was exceptional. There was no rattles or squeaks and the car felt like it was carved out of stone. Even the dealer commented on how well it drove when they collected it. And it was 100% reliable during the time that I had it.

McLaren really messed up with the launch of the MP4 12C. Sales & Marketing depts. rushed it through against the will of the engineers in their eagerness to bring it to market and ring the cash tills. It was a major cock up of epic proportions which came back to haunt them.
TBH having realised their horrendous mistake they did listen and react and were pretty good putting things right but if you were an early adoptor paying full list price you would of needed the patience of a saint.
The first owners not only bore the brunt of the depreciation due to all the bad publicity but also had all the hassle to go with while the gremlins were sorted out FOC. I cant imagine there are many cars now still in the hands of the 1st owner or not properly sorted by now.
I could argue a case for chassis number 001 being worth a small premium but TBH if I was buying one to own and DRIVE I would prefer to pick up one of the later spider ones when the car was properly sorted and renamed just 12c rather than one of the first 100 MP4 12C coupes

In 3 years time I don't think you would of made £25k on the 12C but you certainly wouldn't lose as much as the equivalent GT3 or F430 purchased at todays prices.
If you don't know that it's 'would HAVE made' then I'm not sure you can predict the future.Buy a car to enjoy, not to appreciate l.
Having been part of the owners group (which is very good) I can see that there are mixed experiences. There are people that have had repeated problems and then people like me that have put mileage on the car without issue.
My horn broke and McLaren also decided I needed new suspension, I was perplexed at the time of mentioning but then I drove a 650 and it did ride better. Once the accumulators had been upgraded it was night and day difference.
Buy a car that you can check the warranty history on and you can also see that it has not been in and out of a dealer for unresolved problems.

I think that one of the issues with the argument that the 720s is £240-£280k, thereby supporting the pricing of the older cars, is that they won't stay at that level for long. Once the early adopters have their cars, the discounting will start to shift volume and it will be the 650s all over again. Then the spider willl arrive and then the next one etc etc.
I reckon the 12c has found its level at £120k or whatever and the 650s will get there too. Lot of car for that money but they can't really be compared with a 997 gt3 as Porsche isn't really making anything like it any more and won't again. Definitely not the same for McLaren as the 720s is fundamentally the same idea as the 12c or 650s just better/more/faster.
The 997 gt3 also has 40 years of engineering, design and development to back it up and it shows, regardless of whether it's more your thing than a McLaren or not.
Cant see 12c prices sliding a lot from here but they might drift down a bit depending on what happens with the 720 as that will knock on the 650 in the end. In reality, nobody really knows, so the best thing to do is climb in, get your foot down and try not to grin too much......

Had my GT3 for nearly 5 years now. Value has gone up 25k since purchase. I'm sure this will not continue price increase has slowed. I'm read the 12c has hit it bottom and is on the increase. Its a great compliment hat people are putting miles on them, shows they are easy to drive. Been in and driven 12c and 570s fabulous cars and I really wan to change. I would use it the same use as my GT3, weekend blast fun car. The GT3 gives my something the 12c doesn't and visa versa.I reckon the 12c has found its level at £120k or whatever and the 650s will get there too.
