Believe me I'm trying but it ain't easy when they are all jumping on the McLaren bashing band wagon and taking personal digs at me just to derail subjects.

For the greater benefit of the forum I'm prepared to take the higher ground and ignore there abuse and goading as they are just ruining every thread for everyone

I’m new to the brand and have recently purchased a 2013 12c coupe. In my short ownership the car has been brilliant, I find the ISG pretty good for noise it can produce, the car doesn’t seem to sound too bad on the outside either.
It’s probably not as emotive or dramatic as my previous F430 but it’s way more capable and feels twice as fast!
I’d say that it’s move involving than any 911 I’ve owned (about 6) and people absolutely love it!

Car is in for its first service (of my ownership) on Tuesday so we’ll see how that goes!

I could never have afforded to buy my car for 225k but the fact someone else did and allowed me to buy it for sub 100k is brilliant!

It would be nice to see an independent network surface over the next few years. Thorney can service, warrant and repair them (to an extent) but they’re a long way from me!

Congratulations and where the smart money goes at £100k

Congrats - The 12C looks so right now.

Always takes a few years to tune into Mclaren design, very few seem to complain about the 720s anymore, in fact in my eyes, its one of the most stunning supercars available.

Agree with that.

It looked odd and awkward when it first came out to me but I find myself thinking how beautiful they are now every time I see the design.

Congrats. I think 12Cs are aging very well. A bit like the original NSX I think they’ll look good for a very long time. And they’re fabulous cars!

GC Motors in Harrogate now have the latest Mclaren computer for servicing. Not sure what that means but hopefully another addition for servicing away from the Mclaren network if that’s what people want (I.e. choice).

Apologies for the resurrection of an unpopular thread!

I'm really keen to into a 650 spider and having been holding out observing the prices for the last couple of months.

I am struggling to understand why a car as capable as this hasn't slowed down in the depreciation stakes; not long back in this thread there was guesstimates that these would settle around the £135k mark but there are now 65 plates that dealers I have spoke to will go under the £120k level; I must point out that I will only consider a car with a McLaren extended warranty and I am not trading in.

Is it the time of year, Brexit or just people talking down the brand or the servicing network?

At what level will these settle? Or is it the seasonal lull and it will slightly bounce back in early spring?

I don't want the replies that get thrown in saying if your concerned about the depreciation you cannot afford it; I work hard for my money and depreciation is always a huge consideration in whatever I buy.

The 12c seems to have stabilised with coupes doing the £85k+ mark and the spider doing the £105k. Is there a perception that the original incarnation is ageing very gracefully and may actually be the same value or more as a 650 in the not too distant future?

To throw the other spanner in the works I am specifically looking for a Volcano colour of 650 Spider; are these a marmite colours and hard to move on? Its not a huge concern for me as I want to buy the colour I want, not the colour I think the next owner would want but again, I am interested in any views.

The 720 spider is still a small way off so I would of thought that would of stabilised the 650 spider prices as when launched the price to change up shall be huge, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Another thought is that are people seeing the sport series as a favoured option over the 650? I suppose it does 90% of what the 650 does?

All opinions very much appreciated.

Very little is selling & prices of all brands are tumbling, 488's/720/Huracan are coming down weekly!

Time of year & brexit means demand is low & supply is endless.

Of all the volcano colours I personally think the red is best but I really don't think there's any bad colours out there.

If you can get a nice spec 15/16 plate 650 Spider with warranty under 120k I say go for it!

Based on numbers of cars I’ve seen for sale, or at McLaren meets, re Volcano colours, orange seems most common, then red, see only a few yellow come up for sale. I’d say they’re popular enough not to be a problem, may be desirable to some.

I bought a volcano red car, as soon as I saw it in real life in the sun, I bought it. Funny enough I spoke to someone today who did the same thing.

3 months in, I don’t regret buying my 650.

People said 12c prices had stabilised when they were at £100k for coupes and £120k for spiders too......

Agree with this. Go looks at the recent posts in the Huracan section regarding prices if you need any reassurance of what’s happening in the market.

We are going back to the ‘old normal’

Used super cars depreciation at around 10% a year.

Remember 10 year old Ferrari V8’s at around £40k, nothing to suggest that Mclarens won’t follow this path.

It’s starting to get tough out there.....

The ripple hasn’t reached all asset classes, but as Mcalren has a relatively weak brand it was hit earlier than other brands.

I lost zero on my 12c over a year (2016/17) but £25k (+costs) on my 650s (2017/18)

Moved my VO 650S Spider on in September, needed it gone because of my incoming Performante. I called every McLaren dealer in the country, and only one would actually bid me anything on the car. I expected to get kicked in the balls on price, but I didn't expect that dealers themselves wouldn't want the car. The car itself was fantastic and I had a lot of fun with it in the time that I had it.

As has been said above we are moving back to "normality" in terms of supercar ownership, meaning if you buy one you *will* lose money. So make sure you drive it as much as possible to make it worth it! Think back to the 458 Speciale - weren't order slots still available for that quite far in to the production run?

re the Speciale - could have ordered one at the end of the run (in Germany though) and they were trading at a small discount for a while in 2015. When I bought my FF, the cheapest Speciale was c. 220k Euros from memory

I don't think they're far off stabilizing, I think £60k is the bottom personally for 12c's - there comes a point where the performance and image is so solid that they hold - like GTR's @ £35k for ex.
