Agreed.

Have just put mine on SOR, will be up on PH in a few days if not sold already.

Higher spec and McLaren Orange.

Cant even consider anything else but a McLaren.
Its the Prestige and Exclusive brand with the bargain price tag currently. As a product and piece of engineering its superior to its competitors but does not have the heritage of the badge yet. That will change and the brand awareness is growing hugely driving ever increasing demand.
Early cars will become like Ferrari classics eventually.

Always makes me laugh when half the general public think my 650S spider is a P1 and worth over a £1m

Basic car priced accordingly but at the end of the day its still a McLaren with mental performance for very little money. It will be sold in no time as the cheaper lower spec cars are easier to move on
Can't agree and I actually am speaking from experience here. For all the capability of the car, they are hard to shift even at £90-ish k. Unfortunately.

I looked at that car over Christmas with the intent of buying it.

Its been in a front end shunt and hasnt been properly repaired, huge gaps around both headlights and if you lift the bonnet the font nose cone is cracked in 2 places.

At the price I was still interested subject to the garage taking the nose cone off to allow inspection and validation that nothing was damaged underneath - they didnt seem keen to allow that. suspect they were working on an ignorance is bliss basis. IMHO Buyer beware.

Absolutely right but some people will look at it and tar everything else with the same brush. Sooner its gone the better.

Equally lots of overpriced cars that are not selling for years are not an indicative price

there's plenty of other non-accident cars in the £90-99k range to choose from

Notwithstanding accident damaged vehicles, or McLaren’s need to sort £3.5k ‘mandatory’ warranty, who would realistically buy a non McLaren main dealer car that’s out of either an original or extended warranty?
I remember trying to haggle with an independent dealer on a 12C Spider and the rigmarole of trying to get an agreement in principle around MC main dealer inspecting and verifying that the car was sound and that neither I, nor the dealer would incur rectification costs in addition to the £3.5k was rather impractical in the context of buying a car through the independent.
Alas, I was put off by buying a potential dog and just bought my 650s from main dealer instead.
First Main dealer 12C (with 30k miles and in Winter) is £107k.
It seems like a vicious circle of Main dealer prices having to vaguely compete with ‘market’ despite legitimate reasons for devaluation (like accident damage etc.). ‘Cheap’ cars not selling, getting cheaper. All McLarens slowly trend downwards in line with the falling tide...
Just ask a Ferrari dealer how many 488 Spiders they have in stock versus how many they’re ALLOWED (by Ferrari) to advertise?
All IMHO, but of course...

Agree

McLaren’s immaturity means they do not fully control of the Used market to protect residuals.

These cars will get dragged down to £80-90k over next year or so.

I was told a couple of weeks ago by a well respected independent that the official warranty has increased in cost to £5k.

That won’t help resale values...

Exactly, factor it into the overall deal if you are concerned about the repair costs and it still works out as a steal.
How much would you pay for an equivalent warranty on a 10 year old F430 at similar vehicle purchase price.

Lots of scaremongering stories on McLaren repair costs but the FACTS of the matter ( proven by the warranty repair statistics ) are its no where near as bad as made out by those with a vested interest to dish the brand.

I can assure you I'd rather have a 5 year old McLaren without warranty than a 10 year old Ferrari without warranty
You haven’t owned a 12C, nor had a close friend with one. My friends 12c broke so many times it was scary. It even would have the air con continue to be on even when the car was turned off. Record was 3 visits to the shop in a month. The 12c spider however had many things sorted out. Old 12c’s were refitted with 612ps engines. But still, you really really don’t want to own the 12C without a warranty.

Well if that was a very early 12c in the early days of deliver ie last quarter of 2011, that experience is not relevant either now.

And old 12c's were absolutely not refitted with 625PS engines, it was simply done via a ECU flash when there was a system upgrade for the car done starting late 2012.

I have owned a 12C for 2 years and will in another 2 years because I wont sell it for £100K let alone 90 and it will still be worth that no doubt in 2 years. I have had warranty and all I can say is I wish I hadn't bothered. 7 trackdays, 1 set of door locks (under warranty). 1 water pump (under warranty) and 14,000 miles covered. It's a shame only scare mongering from people that know someone, that knows someone happens on forums and the other 99% of owners that have very few problems don't come on to balance the negativity.

My issues were fixed during service, so not off the road EVER, they are a brilliant car that are still ahead technically of the modern competition. Have owners had issues, sure they have, many more have had none to talk of and most of the moans are about the dealer network. With new dealers coming soon, this will improve. When I did service my car at the dealer that everyone moans about, I had no issues whatsoever. That is not to say that they are perfect, but again some balance is needed.

The issue with forums is no-one ever really comes on and says, oh my car is brilliant and I have had a year trouble free. Plenty come on tell stories of woe. So here I am another year of trouble free motoring in my 12C, 7,000 miles so far and not one issue that has had my car off the road yet. My reversing camera has packed up though. OMG it's a disaster!!! NOT.

Without wanting to sound like a doom-monger, I would really encourage you to keep that warranty. My car was near faultless for 5.5 years and almost 50 track days... but believe me I'm bloody glad I kept it ongoing.
