The first 2 items were in the first year and I never knew about the pump, because there was no leak that I could see. The reversing camera is not really spoiling my enjoyment or keeping it off the road.

I accept you have a biggrin after pointing this out, but seriously they are a bargain supercar currently and far more reliable than people seem to make out.

I have had warranty and all I can say is I wish I hadn't bothered. 7 trackdays, 1 set of door locks (under warranty). 1 water pump (under warranty) and 14,000 miles covered. It's a shame only scare mongering from people that know someone, that knows someone happens on forums and the other 99% of owners that have very few problems don't come on to balance the negativity.
Without wanting to sound like a doom-monger, I would really encourage you to keep that warranty. My car was near faultless for 5.5 years and almost 50 track days... but believe me I'm bloody glad I kept it ongoing.
Obviously you didn't drive it hard enough biggrin

have McLaren just raised the price of the warranty on cars over 5 years old to £5k? or is that internet BS? if its not it doesn't sound like McLaren have much confidence in the older cars! thats not going to help residuals frown

You've made it clear previously you would not buy a 2nd hand car even at £3500 per annum warranty. What do you care about whether or not the warranty is going to up and whatever happens to residuals?

Well sod that for a game of soldiers.

Don't know what is more damaging - the fact that a buyer has to pay 5% of a car's value every year as insurance against catastrophic failure, or the implication that such a warranty is so necessary that Mclaren were losing money selling them at 3.5k a year.

Funny that so many people on here knock the brand and talk as if they would buy one if this and if that.....

Buy one and enjoy it, pay the warranty or don't. The car is still better than anything out there for the money and one day people will look back and say remember when they were 100k!!!!

There will be multiple independent specialists to choose from in the future and people will realise that issues can be overcome without sending a gearbox back. There is a fix.

I would wager that the McLaren issues that have been seen pale into insignificance compared to Porsche engines as an example.

I have had a better experience with McLaren warranty than with Ferrari and exhaust manifolds, headlights lights and rattles. Porsche with rads and gearbox synchros,

14k ish miles in my McLaren and Ive loved every moment.

£5k for warranty on a £90k (£70k to the trade) car? Are you joking me??

That is just insane...no wonder this brand just tanks...and tanks.

12c values will just keep on going down because McLaren are just plain greedy and won’t allow independents and specialists access to their diagnostic software...

Run for the hills..

To put this into context, an Aventador (V12 with a proper sounding engine and costing £300k ), also charges £5k for a warranty....

What a moronic post. Do you really think labour costs or the price of a replacement gearbox will be significantly different.

If you invest the £210k saving then I suspect it would return more than the £5K annual charge for the warranty.

What I am almost certain of is that a £100k MP4 12C will over time hold its value better than an Aventador.

With the exception of an odd high mileage or rogue damaged car 12 C values are hardly tanking FFS

The average price over the last 3 years has in fact hardly moved and sits between £105k and £120k.

Wish I could get a tanking at less than £5k a year.

Some people don't half right some tosh on here rofl

It seems like some people love to hate the brand and troll PH looking to make negative posts.

What a waste of energy.

Lots of owners run Lambos and Ferrari without warranty, Im sure McLaren will end up being the same. It seems that a few owners already use supercar independents for the everyday service and repairs and then the specialist diagnostics work at a main dealer.

Yes lots of Lambo and Ferrari owners run their cars out of warranty.

But the recurring theme here is that a McLaren out of warranty is not worth buying, because no one other than main dealers can fix them. So you don’t have a choice of a cheaper repair.

And now the warranty is £5k...the problem just gets bigger.

How old is the oldest McLaren - 2011 or something? I find it hard to believe that lots of Ferraris of that age or younger are either run out of warranty or serviced by independents. Aren’t most of them on 7 year service plans etc? not particularly interested in Mclarens but not worth buying seems a ridiculous Statement - 12c looks good value for money to me (looks better than the 650 too imo)

5k is quite a lot though, I think my Ferrari warranty is a little less than 4K euros.
