Another quick update from me, up to 3k milea although I haven't had much chance to get the car out (or the camera) over the last few weeks. I did however have a trip to McLaren Glasgow to try and diagnose the 'whistling windscreen', or what I thought was so. The team at Glasgow are superb, not only did the find the problem, they also gave me a couple of freebies to hand to a colleague's son, after he was so delighted with the McL keyring I have him. Here is a pic of the poster

As it turns out it isn't the seal on the windscreen as I'd thought, it's one of the air-conditioning flaps that isn't sealing properly within the dashboard and causing a high pitched whistle. It's going in for a service in 4 weeks so it'll be rectified then. I was pretty mine constraint this visit, but happy it'll be sorted. Strange one. Anyway, some very nice cars in the car park...

I was down in Glasgow anyway for a show with my Dad, who admits he's not a fan of 'go kart' sports cars. He loves comfort, toys, range rover type Cars. Much to my amazement he was very impressed with the 540. Found it very comfy, spacious, and was very complimentary. The luggage space is surpringly useful. The front boot is a lot bigger than it looks, and managed an airport case and two soft bags, then the rear shelf for everything else. Plenty of space.

Mpg wise, we cruised at 70 ish on the way down and the computer said 38mpg, followed by a bit of town driving and country roads, it dropped to 33mpg and that was over 350 miles. Happy with that!

Other than that, nothing major to report. The DAB is pretty awful but I'm not sure if it's my dashcam interfering with it?

And service wise, I've been offered the choice to not change the oil during the first service as it's not mandatory? Any thoughts? I'll probably just get it done to keep it as good as can be.

And, just when I thought the 540 was a small car... hehe

Nice update, and great photo's as always thumbup

Still not convinced by that chopped-carbon on the Lamborghini wing and rear, but nice to see a cheeky roof scoop sitting in the line though.

As for servicing, I'd change the oil annually just to keep the service history clean. The one thing that I would skip on the service is the annual replacement of the wiper blades. Looking at the servicing costs from my first service last month the wiper blades cost just about the same as the oil so get the oil changed and leave the wiper blades. They really don't need changing every year unless you're doing lots of miles IMHO.

I never knew about the wiper blades! Agree on the oil, would be daft not to do it.

On the carbon fibre, I really like it. My dad thought it looked dusty. I'd probably agree if you didn't know what it was

I thought I would write another quick update, as I have just dropped the car off with McGlasgow for a few things -

1st year service
Both keys being replaced (not working very well, and occasionally the car doesn't recognise the key is inside. This hasn't actually stopped the car starting, more an annoyance )
AC whistle is being repaired. Not sure on the repair mode for this but hopefully its not too major.

As for the car itself no real major news other than I am still absolutely loving it over all. The performance is still gob smacking, but its also quite nice to drive at a normal pace. It feels very special.

Only couple of annoyances I guess, the stereo isn't great. I didn't have a huge choice of spec when I bought this car as I was budget restraint, but I do sometimes wish I had the uprated ICE (albeit i've not actually heard it, just assuming its better). And the exhaust isn't quite loud enough. I'll stick with it for now but keeping an eye out for different options.

I am considering getting the alloys refurbed gold. Thoughts?

So, I have two options when driving down to the dealers - the boring dual carraigeway, followed by the motorway around Glasgow... Or the slightly more scenic A93 also known as one of the Old Military Roads. This section runs from Braemar to Blairgowrie and I pretty much had it to myself. I stupidly forgot my camera battery but grabbed a few drone pictures

Once I rejoined the motorway, I filled up and reset the trip. I was averaging 31.1mpg at a cruise around 70mph. Pretty chuffed with that.

Hoping to get the car back in a few weeks depending on garage availability and my work cycle. I had a quick chat with a few of the guys at McGlasgow as I noticed they had a lot of stock. Apparently the turnover just now is huge, averaging almost one selling every day. Great stuff.

Need to get my new McLaren run in quickly and those pictures may have inspired a long weekend away to Scotland from down here on the English Riviera. Got to be over a 1,000 miles round trip without the honing around in the highlands.
Will give me something to look into and plan on the week long wait to collect.
That has to dismiss the thread on do you still enjoy driving your supercar - I would be there 24/7 if I could

Some great pics there Justin220; using a drone adds a whole new dimension to car photography. I might have to give it a try - what combination of drone and camera are you using?

Which thread is that? I'll go have a look smile

You should definitely book a week to take a run round it. The scenery is fantastic. Plus, what a great way to run the new car in!

Thanks. I'm using a Mavic Pro, it's great because it's so portable. The only problem with drone photography is subjects like a car become very small very quickly if you tend to go high up. But it's nice to see the roads from a different perspective

I've never been a big fan of McLaren's but those car pics in red have caused me to re-think! No immediate plans but possibly in the future if I move on.

As for the Lambo carbon wings - sorry, I thought it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months covered in dust and dirt. No thanks!

I've just been looking at drones on the rain forest; the choice is bewildering. What made you choose the Mavic Pro over the competition and would you recommend it?

I think DJI are pretty much the market leader, much like an Apple product. They are simple, easy to use and very good support (IME)

The choice is then down to size, camera quality, flight times etc.

The Mavic Pro is a brilliant all round package. It's small, poortable and the camera is ok for the size. It's pretty much like a phone camera. If you want a better quality picture you need to look into the Phantom 4 pro, or even the inspire range which is where it gets pricey!

Hello, funny you have bumped this thread up as I was planning another quick update on mine.

Yes it is my daily driver, although I don't need to drive to work. However I have used it for courses, shopping runs, everything else. We use my wife's car if we need to take the dog out smile

I live out in the sticks (ish) so the mileage is creeping up, maybe quicker than I though. I'm up to just over 4k miles now total, around 2.5k are me in just under 6 months.

Not a huge lot to report on since the last update. I have had the car serviced by McGlasgow who were excellent throughout, and even delivered the car to me afterwards.

The windscreen whistle which they originally diagnosed as the AC seals within the dashboard, turned out to be a section of the windscreen had not been bonded properly. This has also been repaired and made a huge difference when driving the car. Unfortunately I have had a bit of leak following this repair, and haven't managed to conclude if its actually a leak or just residual water from the windscreen repair. I'll keep an eye on it, but as the car lives in the garage it doesn't tend to sit in the rain for long periods.

It's been a while since I updated this thread, but thankfully nothing major to report. The car is going brilliantly, and I'm almost at 5k miles now, still averaging 26-28mpg.

20181026_121447 by justinking1986, on Flickr

I popped along to a McGlasgow drive it day just to say hello, and they had the 720S there, what a stunning piece of kit. The 540C (IMO) makes most car designs seem quite dated, but next to the 720S, the 540C looks old hat frown Still, I guess it should for almost £100k difference. I'l love to try one at some point.

I'm finding Sport/Sport for the handling/powertrain set up the best, although I do flicker between track mode for the powertrain at times. Track handling doesn't seem to flow as well with me on local roads. Too many potholes!

My only real gripe with the car just now is the inevitable depreciation its going to take, and I do often worry about mileage. Although most of that thoughts come from reading threads on here, I think if I wasn't a member on here I'd be blissfully unaware! :O

I am going to start planning a Euro trip for next year, and might do a couple of local ones around Scotland as thats really what the car is for, however its turning out to be a brilliant daily!

I haven't had the drone out either, but got a couple of phone pictures today, it is well overdue a wash! hehe
