Great Pics!

Good to read a thread, that places the emphasis on the driving/owning experience. Not the ever growing I can't use my car due to appreciation/depreciation sections of the Forum!

Great pics Justin...

I recognise your username from maybe cliosport days around 10years ago?? (I was Jamier27)

Car looks amazing! How far are those roads in the pics above from Glasgow?? Im from Carlisle and try to get up to Moffat/ St Marys loch area when i can.
But with my latest purchase (exige) im not sure i could stomach driving too far up the 74 for a blast on some good roads...

I must be honest, the mileage and depreciation is a worry, but trying not to let it bother me until I come to sell. It would be great if the car held a bit of value, but at the same time I went into it with my eyes open and realise it won't completely.

I'll try and enjoy it in the mean time!

Hi Jamie, yeah Cliosport was my gateway into the car world. I really loved my 182, and would love another. Or possibly a 197.

Which Exige have you gone for? I've had an S2 NA but only kept it a few months, I thought I could make it work but I was doing too many motorway miles at the time and it didn't suit it.

Those pictures are from the Blairgowrie to Braemar road, which might be a bit far from you. If you are looking for a bit of scenery though, I'd recommend heading up to Glencoe and Kinlochleven which is closer to Glasgow. Stunning!

Im picking a S2 Exige on Sunday, Lots of upgrades so even more extreme that the "soft" exige.
Funnily eough i was in Mclaren Glasgow a couple of months back as i was passing and popped in. Enquired just to see what man maths could be done on the cheapest 540 (105k)... and it was reasonably acheiveable. But too much going on at the moment to commit to such a car.

I do need to get up the west coast of Scotland some time soon and enjoy those roads and scenery

Small world isn't it! I'm pretty sure I bought a VX220 hard top off you at one point? Maybe I'm confused though..

I'm now up to 5400 miles on mine, seems to be climbing quite quickly considering I haven't done any major road trips yet. I am tempted to book up for the Spain tour next year though.

Car is still going great, averaging 26mpg still. It doesn't feel like I am using the car a whole lot just now but I'm not overly fussed as the state of the roads just now near me are horrendous - pot holes, salt etc.

I went out yesterday with the drone to try and get a couple of flying/panning shots which in my head I thought would have been easy, but it was bloody difficult! Not overly happy with these pictures but I'll post a few up anyways.

Great pictures Justin.

If you don't mind, how did you get the effect with just the red car on black and white background? I'd like to be able to do something similar with a photo of mine if possible.

Thanks

I use a bit of a crude method and I'm sure there are better/simpler/easier ways to do it, but basically I open the picture in Photoshop and use the lassoo tool to draw round the car to select it. I then select the complete inverse, so everything but the car is selected. Then I just desaturate the picture (not including the car as it's not selected)

Hopefully that makes sense

Got 'spotted' by a friend the other day, quite like this picture as it shows how low and squat the car looks around other traffic

Afternoon all, its been a while since I updated this thread, although I've not got a great deal to report on. The car was garaged a fair bit over winter but it still got out for a few miles, I've now owned it for exactly 12 months, and covered 4.5k miles, so up to 6k miles total.

Our for a run the last couple of days and took a couple of pictures, one of which the Renault Sport fans may appreciate...

Clio V6 by justinking1986, on Flickr

The 540C is running brilliantly, no issues at all since the whistling windscreen when I first picked it up, I'm happy to report. Averaging around 26-27mpg usually. The IRIS is a bit fiddly, but being honest I don't really mind. It is at least different and gives the car some character. I have been using an Audi Q3 for a few months and although I can see why people rave about Audi interiors, my god is it boring. Not a bad wee car all round, but my point being I'd rather have an interior that has a bit of flair, even if it doesn't quite work as fluently.

Also, I have been considering what to do with the 540C this year, we have our first wee one on the way ETA July, and I really can't see it being used much. Unfortunately the prices seem to have dipped quite a bit in the last 12 months which makes it harder to justify selling. I'd rather keep it and not use it, than sell it at a big loss. Might just buy a matching baby seat hehe

On a similar note I decided to book a NC500-type trip to get the car out and use it for what its meant to be used for, before I'm submerged in prams, highchairs and nappies.. My plan is roughly the following route -

Road Trip Route by justinking1986, on Flickr

My plan is to head over towards and up through Skye via Mallaig ferry, aiming for the Quiraing for a hike up, then back across the bridge and head to the Applecross, Kylesku Bridge, Kinlochewe and a few other spots. I think I'll stop at a few whisky distilleries on my way and bottle my on scotch for an 18th birthday present for Justin220 junior when they arrive.

That's about it for now, I'll try and get plenty photos on the trip, it'll just be me, my drone and my camera smile

Congrats on the immenent arrival ! We had our first Nov 17 and already she's running riot around the house!!

I recognise the plate on that V6.. think it may have been on a PH run in the borders when I had mine around 10years ago...

Be interested on seeing what the true running costs are in such an entry level supercar .. depreciation will no doubt be the main factor.. and the market does seem very slow. I'm a few years off such a great but if I ever can get something such as you have I will need some serious man math persuation.

I am desperate to do a route like you have planned but I'm not sure I could manage it in the Exige minus sound deadening and cats as well as a whiney jubu gearset and LSD !!

Quite likely with the V6, he's had it ages! Also used to own a 172 so might have been from that..

I think cars like these would be a lot easier to justify if they didn't depreciate, I'm hoping when I sell mine I haven't lost an absolute fortune, but then again I might aswell try and get good use out of it to reduce the £/mile ratio smile

On the NC500, I guess it depends how dedicated you are. That sounds like a great car for it to me! I took my old TVR T350 over to the nurburgring and it was very loud. It was just part of the journey! Haha!
