Sorry but this is not an answer to my question.
Why this such need of checking the oil weekly?
I get if you do 1000 miles on a week or month....
What’s typical oil usage on a Sportseries or Superseries?
I get all the concerns driven by stupid people over revving their engine when cold, but if that’s avoided, what’s the need of checking the oil weekly?

Because Thorney advised members of the McOwners UK club to do it. Better safe than sorry I guess. The difference between OK and low levels is literally 0.5 litre. With some spirited driving (which most of us do), weekly check seems sensible for the 90 seconds it takes. Why this such need of checking the oil weekly?

It would be good to know the expected oil usage per 1000 miles as well rather than just following advices.
I’ve had 3 super series cars (2*12C and a 650S) and covered approx 90k km across these cars. All driven reasonably hard and used on numerous track days ... the only oil ever put into them was/is during annual service. mickpsu said:
Having done a lot of research before I bought a 720S, I was expecting some McGremlins. The engines are proven and tested and are rock solid. If they are serviced well and oil levels are maintained (check weekly is a must), there will be few issues. The engines were originally from TWR and were designed for Indy Car racing - Massively over-engineered which is why they are used throughout the McLaren range, right up to the P1 and Senna. The gearboxes are made by Graziano, the same company that make the gearboxes for Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, Maserati , Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin. I bought the 720S in April 2019 with 1500 miles on the clock – it now has just over 5000. I intentionally use it as a DD to help identify any McGremlins, but it is also F’ing addictive – I can’t get enough of it. I’ve had some minor issues with rattling trim and Dab radio being pretty crap, but nothing to cause me concern to the level that other people would want you to believe. Are you in the McLaren Owners Club UK? If not, it would be a good decision to join. Lots of social events, over 300 members, answers to most questions within a short amount of time and recognised by McLaren Automotive. Join here > https://www.mclarenowners.org.uk/
You have a fantastic car!
Thanks for the tip. Out of interest, have you had to top up your oil at all? You have a fantastic car!

Yeah I was a member but I'm guessing it must have lapsed as I don't have access to the Facebook page anymore, only the free non paying one.

Yes, had to top it up with 1 litre last week. I’ve done nearly 4K miles since I bought it in mid-April 2019. The car was serviced as part of the pre-delivery / preparation process so one would assume it was topped up to the correct level.Yeah I was a member but I'm guessing it must have lapsed as I don't have access to the Facebook page anymore, only the free non paying one.
If you haven’t checked your oil in some time, would be interesting to see if it needs topping up.
A few pics from this morning...
I was asked if I would mind a photographer from Instagram come along and take a few photos of the car for his profile. I took a few myself, but will add his in once I've got them

Also, setting off for a bit of a road trip on Tuesday so hopefully some good photo opportunities

I can't understand checking the oil weekly. I've done 3000 mile trips where it's only dropped 1 or 2 notches. In about 30k in various McLarens I've only topped up once with a tiny bit, rest of it's been done at service time.
I know engines burn at different rates so maybe I've been lucky.
The screen wash goes down pretty quickly though!
