Yep, it’s a GT but 0-100mph in 11s is ok and still quicker (just) than my Golf R. If they had put in the later turbo V8 with the 8 speed box it would have fully fulfilled its potential. Mine’s an early car I have had from new so now don’t like taking it out in the rain.
Mine is long gone now, I bought it as a bit of a treat one of the times that I was expected to die and then didn't.
Will be interested in an MC20.
It might be, the drivetrain in particular will be interesting as it’s been a long time since Maserati made its own engines. Mind if I wanted a fast mid engined car I would be the OP and have a ‘cheap’ Mc.

Thought it time to get another update posted, almost a year since the last major post. I have just dropped the 540C off for its 4th (major) service and Air Con top up..

Cost for the service - £1600 and air con regas £372. Most expensive bill to date (not including warranty renewal).. Thats at McGlasgow.

It's also developed a small fault with the radio, not that it was much use anyways but it looks like a new Tuner is required...

Unfortunately I think I've covered just under 2k miles in the last 12 months, the car has just ticked over 12k miles at 4 years old. I really need to find time to use it and hopefully now with restrictions almost lifted I'll get along to some car events and some road trips again. I did pick up some 'Seen Through Glass' coffee a few months back and it really is superb.

I meant to take a picture, but over the last 4.5k miles, I have forgotten to reset the trip computer and have averaged 40.1mph, and 26.3mpg. Pretty good I'd say.

Warranty renewal is due, and I have a week to decide on whether to go for it or not. Another £2900 for the peace of mind, but its hard to justify when I've had very little issues the last few years, and also due to the very little miles I've been doing. Thoughts welcome.

McGlasgow dealer, it was a stark change to last time I was visiting when they had 25-30 used cars in stock. They currently have 1! Thats right, 1 car! I have recently enquired about selling the 540C back to Glasgow as a straight sale, but the numbers just didn't work for me. Sad to say it, but I've lost a fortune on the car and I might aswell keep it and enjoy it, rather than taking the hit. I've not lost anything until I sell it right? biggrin I would absolutely love to trade up to a 600LT Spyder, as the only real thing I miss with the 540C is the ability to take the roof off. I really enjoyed that in previous cars, and in hindsight, should probably have held out for a 570S Spyder originally.

One of the cars that was in the car park was this outrageous 765LT. WOW. I'd say this is one of the best looking cars on the road IMO. Menacing and stunning at the same time.

Thats really it for now, not much of an update but I will get some better pictures posted next time once the car is back from McGlasgow in a few weeks. I'm still delighted with the 540C, and would highly recommend one. By far and away the best car I have owned.

I have a similar dilemma - although mine has almost exactly a month left to run, and is more like £4,900 which seems a LOT of money just in case!

I started seriously thinking about it a month ago, and I have decided I won't renew. I've never been bothered by extended warranty for any other car I've owned and - despite the glitches - don't think I need one for the 650.

(Part of the reason I was thinking I should renew it was because I hadn't quite clicked with the car, and was considering selling - which the warranty would help with. But I am now sure I'm keeping it, so it's an easier decision)

How come? 540C's and other Macs have been on the increase in the last 4/5 months?

I dropped mine off this morning too Justin
I’m in for 4th year service, clutch fluid, mot and warranty renewal.

The 765LT was lovely, parked next to a black 720, you can see how different it really is

Must admit, I feel the same. I know the car well and would like to think any issue it has will hopefully be less than the warranty outlay

Spooky! I was in and gone by 9am this morning.

Assuming you've decided to renew?

My view is :

I <might> have a very expensive issue - which is more than the warranty cost - but even if I do, I'm unlikely to have that kind of issue every year.
Even if I do have an expensive problem - whereas McLaren would say "needs a new gearbox" or "needs a new engine" - for 90% of those issues Thorney could fix it without an entire unit replacement, for much less - probably more than the warranty cost, but still affordable.

I think that Thorney - and other indy's that are beginning to appear - make the self insure route a lot safer, even if you don't use them day to day. If he was closer (it's about 100 miles) I'd probably switch to Thorney for servicing and might even take his warranty out. But even without doing that, I think he is a safety net for most big issues.

On my 650s this error has shown up a couple of times over the last years, but goes away with a quick reboot….

Always good to see updates, thanks. For comparison my last major service (12c) was £1500. I did get the rear light replacement done foc due to McLaren warranty. On the warranty front I'm also undecided as it's up in November but feel the car is a gud'n. I must steer clear of internet stories as a little information can be a bad thing. ETA £375 for air-con' re-gas sounds a bit steep.

Nice update and it sounds like you used yours about as little as I used mine over the last 18 months. For me it was just too tempted by the current inflated market and I've sold my 570s. Owned from new and after 4 great years I decided it was never going to be worth any more than it is at the moment and the cost of keeping it was only going up so off it went... very reluctantly as it was everything I had hoped and more thumbup

The warranty on my 2018 570S Spider expires tomorrow. I decided to renew which was done yesterday. Cost me £2985 which I'm happy with. I wrote the money off for the ext. warranty when I first bought the car so my personal accounts still show the same balance. Makes me feel better doing big bills that way, then my man maths says they're free when it actually comes time to pay!

Nothing yet, I've banked the money and I'm going to wait and see how the market settles. I was tempted to jump straight into a 599 Ferrari but I think I'll wait to see what happens with F12 prices. I've a good mate with a beautiful Vantage V12 S who keep badgering me that I need to tick the V12 box before I get too old... but then I'm also hoping the market swings back to where it was 12 months ago and I can find a nice 600LT.

The 570s was an astonishingly good car and it's certainly left a very big hole to fill.

There is a very nice looking 600LT Spider for sale on the owners group. But not much use if you're waiting wink

I really fancy a V12 at. some point, but I think it has to be proper bonkers with doors that open upwards. I suspect this is crazy idea.

I have a lovely V12V manual brute that doesn’t get used much since I’ve had the Mac. Not the best engineered cars, I’m afraid. Both the V12 and the manual sound great in theory, but just feels slow and blunt compared to the Mac.

Afternoon all.

Thought I'd post another quick update on the 540c as I've just had it back from its 4th service and MOT.

Sadly between MOTs I've only done 1800 miles which is far too low. I'm blaming COVID mainly but priorities have changed with my wee boy / dog. Just struggle to find a lot of time to get out and use it.

Saying that it's been relatively faultless, other than the radio tuner failing which was replaced under warranty. Possibly a blessing as the DAB reception is a lot better now.

Service and MOT cost for the 4th (major) service was £2086 all in. I think this is very reasonable as it also included a (£370!) air con regas, wipers and tyre inflator refresh which was out of date (?)

Warranty to renew was going to be £2850, which I've decided to brave and self-warranty. Time will tell if that's a good idea or not, but previous year when I did renew, I never used it other than the radio tuner. And with such little miles it's even harder to stomach!

I'm rapidly approaching my end of term PCP (4 years) so I'm needing to quickly decide what to do with the car come March. I'd love a trade up to a 600LT or 720S but I'm just not sure the cost to change is worth it to me. I'd be looking at a £60k cost to change.. And £60k buys a lot of a second car.

Other option would obviously be to change it for something of similar value, but there is literally nothing out there that tempts me. The 540C is such a good all rounder it's going to be hard to replace. I've thought about a complete change of direction (eg RS6) which i could daily but I'd definitely miss having the fun car in the garage.

I really must get out with the camera and get some pictures before winter hits!
