What are people's thoughts on a 600LT Vs 720s..? Given both are coming in to a similar price bracket I am mighty tempted to trade up from my 570S assuming I can have a fiddle with the numbers on my man-maths calculator and get it all to stack up...

Am not looking for the 600LT as a track day car, just my current car with the wick turned up a bit. I absolutely love the 570 so am wondering if this is that but even more so, and I do also think they look amazing with - would it be too hardcore for the road etc so is a 720 a better buy?

I know the 720 is mega quick and I did the McLaren track day in one in October and was blown away, but is it still exciting at normal speeds? One of the things I love about the 570 is that even at legal speeds and pootling around town, it still feels special and an event to drive - although am starting to think this is a McLaren thing so probably applies to all their cars.

Am finding it hard to work out which I'd prefer and like both for very different reasons.

Am curious as to peoples thoughts and especially those who have experienced both and maybe made a similar move themselves...

P.S. For the purpose of the above am not wanting to get in a discussion around depreciation and faults and niggles etc - am sure there will be plenty of time for that later smilesmilesmile

I had a 720S spider as a courtesy car and although I couldn't push to anywhere near its limits I was really happy to get back in my 600LT for all the usual reasons! Feels more like more of an event.

My pal has just swopped his 600LT for a 720.
I've been in both with him, on the road and round the track.
The 720 is a far better car.
His 720 lap times where a couple of seconds quicker as well.
600LT is a great car and compares with the Porsche 911GT3
The 720 is a really great car and compares with the Porsche 911 GT2RS
If they are both the same price, it is a no brainer.

Tried both on road and track.

The 600lt for non track use really does steer you to a 720s.

The 720 is plain better on road with it’s trick suspension and is less noisy in the cabin for touring.

For track use the difference is marginal, as the 600lt is lighter and more nimble but not necessarily quicker round a circuit.

600 looks better though imo

Technically the 720 is the better car.

Drive both to make your decision.

For me the 720 whilst faster, didn’t feel faster; paradoxically because it is sooo good, so composed.

For me the 600 is raw, more analogue, more on point, and felt more special as a driving experience.

Also, when we say the 720 is clearer faster, the 600 with 2.9sec 0-60 is no slouch.

It reminded me of choosing the GT3 over the 911TT. Again both great cars so depends on what you are looking for.

Agree with ronnie, it's all about driving engagement and rawness. Plus special feel/occasion.

765LT I am sure will fix that vs 720S.

But 600LT is mooooooore than enough for non track use and maximum engagement. smile

I have driven 570S but I've chosen and own an LT, if it helps.

The 720S is so bloody good at what it does, being the best of both worlds as a GT’ish and Track car, I think it takes the edge off feeling like a “special event” (When there’s cookies in the jar, you don’t always want cookies). It is a phenomenal DD - I know, I have covered 10K miles over 4 months.

If I had a 600LT, I would only use it as a weekend toy. I don’t think I could live with it as a DD, but I know it would be a very special event when I used it.

The 720S is such a capable all-rounder, the Range Rover has cobwebs on it.

Both are very special, but for different reasons.

Fully agree MAC720S, LT is for week ends. As daily would be horrible, too noisy and raw.

As I thought, everyone is very split. It’s not a daily, Will be a weekend car and something that gets me out of bed early and just want to go for a drive!

Therefore, am thinking 600LT is the one... I had a GT3 over standard 911 and had a 911 Turbo too which didnt excite me....

I guess it also depends on what you are coming from. Perhaps apples and pears, but I kept my V12V when I went to a 650s. The idea was that the V12V, being a manual NA, raw car would be the fun weekend, analogue, challenging driver's car for special occasions. And the 650s would be the "usual" weekender ( I have an even smoother, faster-in-a-straight line daily).

But since getting used to the pace of the 650, and the composure on rough pavement, the V12V now just feels - poor. After all, is being bumped off the line supposed to be a good thing even in a "feelsome" car? And the 650s just destroys my trackday V12V PBs. So, not been out in the V12V really at all. Perhaps the differences are not as stark between the 720 and the 600LT, but I wonder if the 600LT wouldn't just eventually feel to be not the right animal on the open road.

Interesting discussion on this thread, I’ve gone the opposite way! Sold my 720S earlier in the year which I had from new, as a stop loss on the depreciation, great car and a huge improvement on my previous 650S.

Taking delivery on a new 600LT at the beginning of the new year, on a PCP deal, and looking forward to comparing and contrasting it with the 720S...

I am also interested in a 600 LT as a weekend toy/track day toy. I did some research and have 2 questions.

1. Turbo lag: do you feel the turbo lag in 600LT, especially driving aggressively? I used to own a 675LT. It had noticeable turbo lag but I was not bothered by it too much. I read some reviews which all mentioned turbo lag. I am curious whether it is a big deal or not.

2. Sharp corner control: I understand the steering is very accurate. But I read some reviews, which mentioned that during the sharp corner on tracks, with the combination of sharp steering and light weight carbon tub, the car sometimes positions itself unexpectedly, i.e. the sliding sometimes does not follow the expected route thus driver intervening required (which has time penalty). is this common for latest Mac or only for 600 LT?

Thanks very much for your input in advance.

No and yes.

No turbo lag is not noticeable imho, loads of torque and linear response to me.

Yes steering wheel is busy in hands, tyres follow the road and actually it’s on straight line where at the beginning I had to pay attentions as I was going places, but it’s easy to set it on a bend and stick with a wanted position. Not familiar with its behaviour at limits yet though.

Not sure if that is a deliberate double negative. I think they all do, but only when you first come on the throttle at low speeds AND low revs. The 720s is the best in this regard. Once you are going, and the turbos are up, on any of the Macs I’ve driven (not the P1 nor the Senna) you just get a wave of torque, even if you then drop off and come back on when you are at speed.

Top 555 (no connection) have a 600LT Spider going for £189k at the moment (600 miles, green). If that’s of use to anyone. Seems good value (not for the first owner!)

I gather McLaren dealers are now offering a very attractive 2 year finance deal on the 600LT Spiders (£5k deposit, £1250 pm).

Presumably they, like others, are desperate to clear stock. But might be a good, low risk way of buying a McLaren (if you’re unlucky enough to get a lemon it’s ultimately McLarens problem).

Seems they’ve followed Aston’s lead given the recent deals to be had on the new Vantage.
