Hello,

Long time lurker but first time poster.

Currently looking at 570GT and noticed the one at Alexanders Prestige in Boroughbridge.
Has anyone any knowledge of this car or general views regarding the specification and the price they’re asking ?
I’ve had a look at a couple of other Mclaren approved cars and was put off by the interior colours frown
Not in any rush, very much still in the learning curve when it comes to these cars.
Will be joining the Facebook group later.

Can't add anything about that car but I think you have to have a V5 to hand before you can join the McLaren group.
It's a shame really, if everybody who actually owns one wasn't hiding over there slapping each other on the back there might be more people on open forums to give us great unwashed the benefit of their experience.

Hi the car looks lovely, its nice to see someone took time to speck it with matching calliper's and interior trim stitching in red.

Only missing option is sports exhaust, but its a GT and maybe the first owner did not want a noisy exhaust on it, also has the ten spoke wheels which are 15kg heavier than the ten spoke super light weight wheels but again its a GT and not an S so not so important as the GT is a heavier car anyway.

Price looks very competitive, with balance of the manufacturers warranty for piece of mind get it bought id say.

The reason that most owners are on the face book group is most threads on the McLaren forum on PistonHeads usually get dragged off track by certain posters who have a pathological hatred of the McLaren brand, but please don't let that put you off, they are amazing cars and the general publics reaction to them is always positive and you will spend most of your time explaining to them that no its not a P1biggrin

I see your point, but the reason most people are over there hiding is due to the constant negativity on these forums. It gets tiresome at times.

If you end up allowing every man and their dog into the owners group, it'll just turn into another forum just like this.

Test drove this two weeks ago.
Waiting for a valuation on mine for possible p/ex.
It is only a year old with 3 owners - is this cause for concern ?
When i first looked at it and opened the driver door the window dropped but didn't raise again. This was blamed on the battery being low. It was ok later after car had been running a short time. Does this make sense?

I thought there would be a reason for the price, not that should make any difference of how the car is, but it will put a lot of potential purchasers off having had that number of owners in such a short time.

Window dropping can be a common problem it probably needs the latest software updates from McLaren to sort this out, also the car should be on its trickle charger if it’s sat for long periods of time.

Seems strange they have taken so long to come back to you with a PX price ?

Sounds like a nice car. Window issue may be because car went to sleep while you were looking. Open the door and close it again and I bet it will raise. Or push the starter button on the centre console.

GTs are awesome, better looking and sound great with a sports exhaust too. Mine has a Larini cat-back system for £1,500, sounds better than the factory sports exhaust and does not cost the £5k plus fitting for an MSO exhaust, which doesn't sound any better.

Mine is now on 9,000 miles and I'm planning a trip to The Alps in September (crikey, better get planning). Fast fast car, yet quiet and comfy when you want it to be.

Btw, the std wheels may weigh a little more but unless you're a track meister. I defy you to tell the difference in unsprung weight, McLarens are so well sorted for fast road use it doesn't figure IMO. Bit like the difference with an M car having a carbon Fibre roof, could you tell driving it? You could always change them anyway.

Thank you for the replies.
The number of owners puts me off, seems a lot in a short time. Makes me wonder why. If I was closer I might’ve been tempted to take a look and try and dig into it’s history more.

Who did the Larini for you, how does that stand with the warranty? Mine has the standard Mac sports exhaust , I am left wanting though on the noise is the Larini good as £1500 sounds good??

Bought from Larini themselves, can be fitted at a number of indie places. I used Backdraft in Milton Keynes.

The McLaren warranty is not affected, apart obviously from that part of the exhaust now it is missing. If you fitted replacement cats or removed them then that is where potential engine issues can happen, which McLaren understandably would not honour the warranty for.

Are you midlands based? I am , would be great to meet up and hear in person if you would not object?

TIA.

I understand that Justin and there are some sound reasons for gathering the like minded into one place but tbh a private group still seems like a backwards step. Forums like PH are gradually dying because everybody is gravitating toward Facebook groups and I don't think this is a good move, admittedly I don't have any social media accounts so I may be a little biased here but it all just feels a bit elitest.

There are many people on places like Pistonheads who don't own these cars but still enjoy hearing the discussions and the opinions of those who do, the driving and ownership experiences are something people can get here without going through the filter of the weirdo Youtube brigade who's entire existence is based around their own ego. Being a part of a forum that actually involves real people has so much more to offer.

I suppose I'm just grumpy about how things have gone in the last couple of years. I'm just about to take delivery of my third McLaren and I honestly don't know if I would have jumped in without the knowledge and experience of people who used to post here.

How can you garner information from a group that excludes you until you're already an owner?

As you rightly point out though, those of us left blowing about in these forums aren't the most inspiring bunch so it would be nice if some of the vast swathes of owners in the private group could get back involved.

There has been a pattern over the last couple of years of people showing up here and saying "I've just bought a new McLaren!" Before their first post is even dry someone jumps in and says "You must join the sooper seekrit group on Facebook!" And that's that, they're gone.

A huge opportunity to share the goodness gone in my opinion, just for back-slapping.

Hey Grumpy features, remember me? I used to frequent these parts laugh

To answer your queries in random order, there is a free to download and access buying guide on the main website which requires no back slapping or funny hand shakes to join biggrin also anyone can email the admin and ask questions about a car or potential purchase and they’ll get heaps of help; many already have.

The reason it’s kept private is that many people would like to keep their cars private on FB where in most cases real names are used.

Also as has been mentioned there are many unnecessary and pointless bh fests on here (TP321 anyone?) and sometimes we may want to discuss things without the main dealers or mothership having access?

And lastly - and this may be perceived as elitist - we arrange plenty of meets and get together and in this day and age for obvious reasons we like to keep them under the radar smile

So, stop being a Luddite get some much younger person wink to set you up on FB (you can set an account up purely for the group - many have) and join up. You can even use a pseudonym though most use their own names. I promise I’ll only slap you on the back very gently as I know how fragile you are :laugh beer

I actually agree with you, proof being I have the thread on here about my 540C. I thought it would be handy for anyone considering one.

What I would say is though, that whenever there is a new thread popping up about someone looking to buy one, its not as if they are short for replies. Plenty people chip in and offer advice. smile

Plenty of advice posted here IMO. How about we completely ignore posts by the antagonisers. They are trying to get a rise, and they are succeeding. Ignore them and they will get bored and go play somewhere else.

Would make sense but it’s not only the regulars who pop on here and as such the antagonizers (or another word starting with “A” scratchchin ) will still get a response (and the little thrill and excitement that they seek and that they lack elsewhere in their lives smile )
