Hello all,

Without trying to start another ‘what car’ thread... I’m going to start one..

I’ve had a DB11 since January, nice car but doesn’t massively excite - bought as a bit of a compromise and something that I could turn up to clients in without raising too many eyebrows.

[/img]

However, thinking about getting something a bit more exciting.

Either a 458, 488, Huracan or 570S - have seen a really nice 570 spider which looks great, but just can’t decide between them.

What does the collective wisdom think? Anyone gone from a DB11 to one of the above?

I have a 570S Spider, a V12 Vantage and a new V8 Vantage so not quite DB11 but probably not a million miles away from a reasonable comparison.

I love Astons, the looks, sound & brand to me are very special. When I bought the 570S I really bought it thinking it would be stop gap until my new V8 Vantage arrived - how wrong I was. The car is simply amazing - as a drivers car, it’s a big step up from the Astons - the handling is sublime yet its very comfortable. I’ll certainly be keeping the 570 for some time.

It gets far more attention than an Aston but so far it’s all positive. It’s faster, drives better and is more comfortable. It does not sound as good as the Astons (I have sports exhaust but its still a bit dull in the sound stakes).

If I had to only keep 1 car, I’d keep the 570S - its that good and I don’t say that lightly as I think the V12 Vantage is still one of the best cars out there.

Thanks for replying back Ripley - great garage you have there!

How do you find the doors in every day use?

The car I’m looking at has the sports exhaust - when driving slowly, is it quite quiet?

What colour combo did you go for?

Thanks again

Thanks - I’ve not had issue with the doors for everyday use and they really do add to the whole theatre of the car. I would definitely go for comfort access as it really helps for getting in/out of the car - I’d say it’s almost essential if you plan on using the car regularly (unless of course you always have the seat at maximum length.

Sports exhaust is fine at slow speeds - I actually think it should be louder!

I went Ventura Orange with black & orange interior - it’s loud but really suits the car

I also came from a couple of Vantages into my 540C. I appreciate the Vantage isn't the same as the DB11, but the McLaren is a completely different car. Could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you want from a car.

Essentially the four cars you are looking at are all pretty similar, and it will come down to personal preference which you prefer.

Not had any issue with the doors either, for me they are part of the attraction smile the only thing I would say is, it's difficult to know how much space you need to open the door when you are sitting inside. I usually just park in a suitable space where nothing can park next to the driver side. With a usual opening door it's easy to see how far open it is, but with the McLaren doors, I don't find it as easy to judge how far out they are reaching as they go up

Think I’ve seen this around Hampshire... am I right?

I also had a V8 Vantage. It is a great car, but the 570S is just an amazing car. Totally different experience. At least where I am, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Astons are all over. Macs are unique and causes quite the seen, wherever I go. But unlike my Ferraris, the attention has been 100% positive.

Stunning cars guys - you must spend a lot of time looking back when you get out of them!

I used to have a Ferrari 360 spider - It was an event every time I drove it, I’m looking for the next car to give that buzz! Eg used to drive to the next town to get the papers, in subsequent cars haven’t had that urge.

Don’t think my pic uploaded above - retrying below!

Thanks Justin - really helpful, the doors have been a concern for everyday use.

Can’t comment on the lambo or 488 but I was set on a 570S Spider (decided against 458) right up until the point I drove a 650S Spider. I’d suggest driving both as part of this process just so you can make the comparison yourself.

Go and test drive them all, it’s the only way you’ll know what suits you..

I did a very similar exercise, driving all the contenders you’ve mentioned, and ended up with the Performante.
Good luck and have fun in the process.

+1 - test drive them all and then buy the Lambo.

I'll definitely be scratching the Lambo itch at some point.

Really fancy a white countach - like many of us I'm sure, had one on my bedroom wall growing up.

One of the cars I’m looking at doesn’t have the B&W sound system - dealer says that it doesn’t make much difference... any views?

Thanks all

I've not got the B&W either. The standard system is ok, but that's about it. My Vantage had the premium audio which was great, so it does feel a bit worse.

The main problem is is seems to be lacking much bass.

I suppose it depends how important ICE is to you. It's good enough, just not brilliant

It does seem to be a "must have" option. Obviously everyone has different criteria for what's important to them but the B&W is a pretty big step up.

I was in a similar situation and tried all the cars you mention, drove them on the road and on the track. I chose a 488.

The dealer I used was brilliant. I went to Italy to spec the car.

I have had it about 6 months now and have really enjoyed it. It's ridiculously fast and sounds great, you get a LOT of attention, people regularly ask for photos with the car. Its extremely fun to drive and has that excitement factor that an Aston does not really have. It does not have the same level of comfort as an Aston though.

In terms of being a great drivers car for me the gearbox and engine was the best among the competition. The Lambo does sound better but I found the Ferrari handled better and the track and just felt faster. The Mclaren felt less raw and not as exciting. To be honest the next best car for me was a Ferrari 458, but it's just not as quick, even though it sounds slightly better, to me does not look as good. Out of the cars you mention the 488 is the quickest and will probably hold its value the best.

Just my thoughts, everyone is different, my advice is try them all and buy the one you like best.

New Vantage would be the first to go if the vibes I picked up the other week were correct ?

Correct smile

New V8 is a very, very good car - its just the V12 and 570 are amazing cars
