If it is true that McLaren have now significantly cut-back on all UK supplied vehicles (if not ceased), it may well be that the seller is predicitng prices may rise at the lower price ranges. 720S's appear to have bottomed out in the high £150's to £160's.
With utmost respect, I may take a different point of view. That is, a manufacturer who cannot sell their product and stops producing as the shelves are full, even with clearance discounts, might not be an indicator that prices are going to go up?
I think, unfortunately, the rots set for Mclaren (depreciation wise)- they know it, the dealers know it, owners most certainly know and feel it, as do potential buyers.
Many will remember Rambo Lambo waxing lyrical with ‘when they’re gone they’re gone’ re 650 Spiders being a bargain at £190k, with production coming to an end and ‘all the good ones being snapped up the prices are only going to go one way’. I think the real winners in this will be the canny used buyer who will probably be able to pick up a private sale 720 for £130’ish over winter and enjoy for years to come with more palatable depreciation.

I was trying to come up with a reason why the price of the 650 is yo-yo-ing, not making a statement. However, I do know for a fact that dealerships are now buying / part-exchanging used vehicles. What effect that will have on used prices, time will tell.

Thank god no one bought it at £129,990 when advertised as they would of had a expensive few months if they tried to trade it on now.
Your concern for people who might have the will and means to spend money on what essentially is a toy is very touching. Just imagine someone actually wanted to have a nice car to enjoy a few months ago huh...the horror of it. Goodness gracious such foolish people exist huh that need you to save them from themselves!
Sorry I forgot this was piston heads and many on here apparently have the means to buy a car for 130k and then trade it for 80k, less than a year down the road and brush 50k off as small change.

Unlucky for me I’m not in that position to be able to take a 50k bath on a second or third car in a 12 month, over 3 to 4 years fair enough but not in a 12 month.

My points are more to why has this car been dragged around 4 or 5 independents for sale in the last 12 months, one even marked it as sold on their web site and why has it’s priced changed so many times. Over the last 12 months it’s been priced as low as 106k and as high as 130k, it’s now back up to 117k.

They must of stuffed 10k in the glove box as it’s just gone back up, now £117,490

Either the owner who has it on SOR is loosing the plot changing the price all the time or this is now owned buy the independent garage trying to sell it and they are happy hike the price up and sit on it for some time.

Either way I’ve never seen a car go up and down in price so many times over a 12 month or being moved around to so many different independent garages who have all struggled to sell it.

It wouldn’t shock me if the next time we see it will be in a auction house.

Such a shame as I personally think it’s a beautiful looking car.

This could be the case, but I would imagine they have quite a bit of pre registered stock to move first. Another thing to consider is Mclaren are apparently heavily discounting pre registered car to get them to sell at present. so one would imagine the big discounts would also need to come to an end before prices start climbing.

The reason I keep coming back to this thread is IMO a 650s or a 12c could end up being good value for money in term of a super car buy over the next 2 years for the owns looking to get in at lower price points.

Gents it’s only my opinion, please don’t shoot me down for saying it!

I think you may be right.

Buying a really good spec 650 spider at the moment for around £100k mark might just retain about 85% of that value in 24months.

650 coupe would require to be purchased at a slightly lower price.

However trying to predict values of supercars in 2021 can leave you looking a bit silly as per rambolambo being casted up.

Best thing to do is if you want one go and buy one instead of focussing on what it may or may not retain in value...buy in at the price point you are comfortable with and enjoy and worry about the value only when its time to offload.

Since April the only time my Mac's current value has been of any consideration is when posters like Andrew have posted with glee directly asking me how much money it lost last month to which i honestly replied that i don't know...maybe lots maybe little...either way its not of any interest.

I enjoy the car too much to let that be a current consideration.

At £107k then some negotiation that would of been a fantastic buy months ago that someone would of been out having a great fun in...it is a really great spec car.

My only concerns with low miles cars that have sat about for months for sale is if, or how many times the battery has went flat...very easy to happen and causes utter havoc.

A friend has recently purchased a used '17 Range Rover from a main dealer that had sat for 8 months...its on the verge of being rejected as the electrical issues that have been caused due to this means it has spent more time back at the dealer than in his driveway. When he actually went to look at it unanounced it would not start as it was at battery critical...they used the jump start battery pack on it for his test drive.

Why do you think so many independents come and go over the years?
And only a few dealers manage to keep going for decades through the cycles.
It’s about being realistic and having the experience. Many don’t.

I suppose you are correct, imo it’s a very strange tactic by the independent considering the limited audience this car would have and any serious buyer would of done there home work on this and other cars.

If you scan back in the thread the second dealer who was SOR the car also raised the asking price after they had it advertised lower for some time, they also marked it on there web site as sold in there previously sold cars section. Shortly after it then appeared for sale again in another independent garage.

Seems very unprofessional to me but I can only assume it’s the owner dictating the pricing not the independents.

I guess only the very best / cash rich independents will survive if a real down turn happens in the super car market.

Too many cars on SOR at the moment which is a real pain for people who need to part ex an existing vehicle ... really hard to take a dealer seriously if they are not prepared to bid on cars themselves

Well this independent has a interesting pricing strategy, it’s jumped up again in price 🤣

They must be using the glove box as a safe!

The orange 540c they have had for months is now up 3k too.

If it doesn’t sell put the price up then reduce it again later seems to be the strategy.

They clearly are just chancing prices imo, the lowest price this car was recently advertised for in a independent was 106k 🤷🏼‍♂️

It will be more expensive than the lowest priced 720 next 🤣

Won’t be long before they add another 3k onto the asking price of there 540 👌🏻

It’s seems many dealers aren’t willing to put there own money into stock. I tried to sell a limited edition production motor bike last week to what I would regard as one of the very best in the motorbike industry, I was politely told we are not buying stock at the moment.

Of course it's not true, but in my dream world, its that buyers are recognising the relibility of this model and appreciating the simple, well-integrated analog-like interior....rolleyes

Could this be a independents little trick / game? They hike the prices up on a SOR cars just as the car owner is taking / asking for it back and try and make out to the general market that they sell these cars at higher prices than other independents.

Knowing that they have hiked the price up in a couple of weeks from 106 to 125k makes me wonder what type of independents we have out there. I wonder what else they would try and get away with.

It's not only the independants that are playing games! There was a red 570S at Rybrook Birmingham which had dropped to £114850. It would appear they have transferred this car to their Bristol branch and increased the price back up to £119850!

Cars bring moved around from dealer to dealer as they can’t sell them may also become more apparent as the market gets slower and slower.

I’ve only noticed this black 650d getting thrown around independent after independent, thinks it’s either in its 4 or 5th already. Not really followed any other cars but I would imagine if you looked it might become more obvious.

Well scanning the cars for sale this morning this one has had it’s priced changed again, last month 125k this month 102k!

It always seems to be behind the rest of the field considering the white one has now been dropped down to 93k

I’m sure it will have another price increase before Christmas, clearly they have had to use the 20k they had stuffed in the glove box for Christmas presents.

Get that itch scratched!

Offer them £97k to allow for getting a mac warranty put on it as soon as the dealers liability in 6mths ends...

You know you want to....thumbup
