I might offend a few here although that's not my intention so hear me out!
ive driven the Alpine admittedly on the worst test drive possible - greater London.
I really wanted to try it on a b road which is where it comes into its own and Im sure would bring a massive smile to the face and would be "fun" to drive. What Im trying to say is that its a weekend car only in my view. (not saying the other ECOTY cars aren't also).
the A110 certainly is compliant, the suspension is a clever design and rides well.
as an everyday car though its wouldn't do it for me - why - 4 pot motor sounds very "uninteresting", I will have no argument on this! The engine just doesn't sound good even with a few pops, not for £50k in my view.
I can also say that it suffers proper lag which means in slow town traffic trying to pick your points to floor it, one needs to be in a low gear and be on boost.
the interior quality is lacking, fine for a test drive but coming from my Ferrari f430 and BMW M4, again I would say its not good enough for a £50k car.
luggage space is almost zero as well, so it wouldn't do well for any of my Euro jaunts either.
Im being fairly unkind and I am glad that another manufacturer is making a fun sportscar as an alternative to Cayman etc
Very keen to see a 600LT, looks a great piece of kit although I personally think the Pista looks better, highly likely that it sounds better also.

You either get it or you don’t.
I’d volunteer the Jeep Trackhawk as it’s faster than most on the list and certainly more interesting than all these. Do people still read Evo?

Re the Trackhawk, is it simply because it’s fastet than most. Speed. Obviously flexibility wise it’s got that covered but on the twisty stuff, way to cumbersome surely...?
Evo is still on the shelves so yes, people still read it.

It wouldn’t be my thing but it just goes to prove we all like performance served up in different ways.

it’s fun, slightly stupid which I like and is sadly lacking in today’s cars. Not many cars you can bolt a turbo onto a standard engine and do 10 sec qtrs.Re the Trackhawk, is it simply because it’s fastet than most. Speed. I get it as I get the reasoning behind the Fiestas placing. A car like the Pista, fabulous in isolation but how much fun would it truly be, with it’s sky high limits, on our country roads...?
And if you live in most of England, any car that can go around corners fast is also pointless. These days I spend most of my time crawling along at 40mph in jammed roads. So you have to choose your playground beit track day or drag strip. There’s always fun winning a traffic light Grand Prix in something that shouldn’t be fast. wormus said:

Out of interest, how many of those have you driven especially in a back to back run as the various evo writers did?

England and even the UK is a small area (well apart from the bit at the top*). Within 2 hours maximum starting from anywhere you can get to utterly fabulous roads. Go explore!* 2 days travel to/from the south but worth it!

I actually ended up driving the 600LT, Fiesta ST and Up GTi all on the same day on Saturday. Albeit all on short drives but my ordering would be 600LT, Up GTi and then Fiesta.
I too enjoyed the UP GTi but felt disappointed with the performance, I had a lupo gti many years ago that had more power and weighed less!andyvdg said:

yeah definitely, even if had 20bhp more feels like it would be closer to a fun all rounder. Its too close to Panda 100hp warm hatch territory just now.Gassing Station | McLaren | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
