McLarens & Reliability

I’m not aware of any marque that doesn’t have a multitude of horror stories. I own a Mac, an Aston and a Tesla among others. You would think I spend all my time at services centres. But I don’t. Heck the Tesla doesn’t even need any servicing.
But at least that means fewer people will buy these cars, so that I can stand out among all those reliable Honda’s and Toyota’s.
I don’t think that’s the point 12packBut at least that means fewer people will buy these cars, so that I can stand out among all those reliable Honda’s and Toyota’s.
Cars go wrong, it happens. It’s how the company deals with it that’s important. If my Aston goes wrong the dealer sorts it. If they can’t do anything I can tweet Andy Palmer, it gets sorted
McLaren by contrast seem to treat many of their customers with contempt.
Yes I could buy a McLaren and get lucky that it doesn’t have problems. But if it has issues I want to know there will be manufacturer support.
I posted this YouTube video into two WhatsApp Groups I’m in with serial supercar buyers (far more than me!) and unfortunately this chap is not alone with this experience and it’s putting off many from buying again.
McLaren get your act together!!
There are always 2 sides to every story - social media don't you just love it.- i don't and avoid it like the plague - it must be right I read it on facebook
If listen carefully and take in what this chap says - it is not as straightforward as it appears - I hope he has a good wallet and is able to support his allegations - if ever entering litigation never reveal your hand in advance
First I've ever heard of him but his tirade/social media comment won't spoil my McL experience - which has been totally excellent to date, thanks

Brilliant. So your view is basically a combination of “I’m alright jack” and “he brought it on himself”.
And this is why McLaren will continue getting away with it

There was a thread started today in Reader's cars section and already deleted ,no idea why ,about a 720S that the OP
claimed he had driven for 26 days out of 7 months.
McLaren didn't seem to be helping the chap.
it's pathetic that pistonheads deleted that threadclaimed he had driven for 26 days out of 7 months.

The OP may have requested it.
Don't think any naming and shaming had occurred.

The problem is members on PH that own/owned problematic cars are bullied into submission and silence by the minority that have had reliable cars.
I've owned three, two were backed to dealers, the third was sold to a friend after three months of (almost) trouble free motoring only for him to own it for a month and it spend six weeks in the garage.
If your lucky you'll just end up with one that rattles, has piss poor panel alignment and rusts.

I would be pleased to know which 3 McL you have owned? - so you had 2 bad experiences and were willing to sell the 3rd to a 'friend' I've owned three, two were backed to dealers, the third was sold to a friend after three months of (almost) trouble free motoring only for him to own it for a month and it spend six weeks in the garage.

He offered me a price I could not refuse and knowing my previous ownership experience walked into it with his eyes wide open, we're still 'friends' btw.

To explain a bit behind my thought process...
I have always maintained that besides the reliability issues and depreciation they suffer from they're amazing cars, the third I knew the previous owner and up until I sold it on I knew it had been fairly reliable unlike my other two.

Nobody is bullying anyone into silence.
The people that have the reliable cars are NOT the minority...……..people with reliable cars do not find their way onto the internet to tell everyone about it.
My car is two years old in the summer...……..zero rattles. Zero panel alignment issues and zero rust.
My 12c before it was the same...………...not a single day at the dealership for either car.
I don't disagree that your cars may have had issues...…...but the reality is that yours cars were the minority not ours that are fine and will continue to be......

I'm genuinely happy for you and the fact you've had no issues and support the brand in the way you do, I really am however...
If I had issues with any of my other cars over the past two years I would have been on here moaning about them too, the truth is however over a combined 30k miles the only issues I had was with the tank and fuel system on one of my Lamborghini's . The service I received rectifying this was world class - something else McLaren suffers with - the issues trying to get your issues sorted out.

Well another bullying owner reporting in, had two now, sorry to disappoint had first class service from dealer too.
Why would you assume that the fact you've had two reliable cars and awesome dealer service I'm disappointed? I'm happy you've had a great experience so far.The OP has asked a question and I have responded with my own personal ownership woes as I have in the past when the subject has cropped up.
This is exactly the type of behaviour I was referencing albeit slightly more passive aggressive in its approach.

Finally having a new McLaren dealer in the New Forest so looking forward to many more miles of fantastic motoring to come
On my second here too, great cars and great dealer service... otherwise the first would've been my last believe me! Finally having a new McLaren dealer in the New Forest so looking forward to many more miles of fantastic motoring to come
