If I buy it, it’s for driving it on week end.

But want to drive the one I buy, not whatever is there as replacement for 30 (!) days.

Anyway, get that they’re stunning cars.

This.

Two new owners on the forum - both have issues, albeit niggles but not what you expect as an experience with your new to you supercar.

After 5 weeks of ownership (bought new) my 570S Spider has been impeccable in the 1000 miles covered so far - with no issues whatsoever smile

The fit and finish is absolutely top notch and my only regret is that I should have charged a pound for everyone who has sat in it smile

True test soon - off to Italy smile

I collected my Volcano Orange 650 spider today...travelled 350miles and everything still works!

What a car. What an epic drive.

Coming from 14 years of Ferrari spider ownership it did not prepare me for the amazing amount of attention the car got..whether fuelling up or the huge thumbs up from cars on the motorway...all fully positive.

Absolutely loving it.

Wish i hadn't wasted last few months worrying about depreciation and reliability and just got on with it.

You'd have to be absolutely bloody mental to have any supercar as your singular, only vehicle, so you may as well jump in and give it a go.

Mental in all the right ways, imo.

My missus would say otherwise, though :P

Amazing how a few years back it was acceptable that Italian supercars were unreliable, fragile and highly strung...

Which is what I did. 13,600 miles and 21 months later and apparently mine is 'too high mileage' for some. FFS. It's going into storage rather than taking a bath because people don't appreciate faultless cars which are actually used. In a few years time with no use it will be a low mileage example again LOL!

Interesting comment. I very much get the impression that used McLarens are not attractive to the McLaren dealers and are a hard sell for others. Certainly every non franchised supercar dealer I have been to in my Ferrari search has said just that.

I wonder if this is because people are nervous about ownership outside guarantee and not willing to cough up £3500 or whatever each year for a guarantee on a £100k second hand car. I wouldnt dream of having such a guarantee on a Ferrari

Having recently started dipping my toe into the Mclaren market, it seems compared to say Ferrari the owners in the most part are actually driving and enjoying them so mileages in the 20's for a say 3 year old Mclaren doesn't seem unusual. I for one think this is great and long may it continue!!

My 650S Spider has been my daily driver for close to 4 years now. It probably has negative value.

I do think that often people forget that McLaren have only really been manufacturing production cars for something like 8 years. This fact is oft repeated but often forgotten. The advent of social media just means it's so much harsher on them, because back in the days of Ferrari/Lamborghini/Porsche starting out and having crap build quality, that information didn't take to the internet (only to be propagated by a large number of people that don't even, or have never, owned the car).

Add to that, the fact that these objects are the fascination of many people across the world, it then becomes very "lucrative" to have a car with "problems", so you can beat the poor horse to death and wring out some £££ or visibility (which is basically the same thing in this social media crazed world) for your own benefit.

Now, of course, I'm not pointing to members on the forum here, I'm talking more about the chaps that go on to YouTube and make 20 minute videos about the massive problems their cars are having, without ever really getting to the point of said "problems".

i just treated myself a bit of therapy, otherwise known at the A5199, A4304 and other fast flowing quiet A roads around Leicestershire and Northamptonshire in Sport/Sport with a dry road and an empty passenger seat driving

I also visited a car storage facility, where I'm now planning to keep my car for a few years (i'm moving to Singapore in 5-6 weeks).

I used to live out there myself. Born there, lived there for a few years in pre-teens, only went back to serve "my time" in National Service after that. Nice place though, you're going to come back to the UK after a few years with a hankering for the food.

Oh, and when you go car shopping, try not to cry at the prices. Feels almost anti-enthusiast haha!

I’ll be first refusal at that price if you don’t mind .

The problem with this sort of discussion is that it trashes resale values. The simple doubt that it sows makes buyers of used cars more nervous about running costs and problems even if most of the posts say " no problem".

It doesnt help that many moans dont mention the nature of the problem and many that do arent really true reliability but trivial issues like blue tooth connectivity! A McLaren is about speed and performance, not superfluous bells and whistles. If you want those then buy an Audi.
