As the thread is becoming the Jebel Jais appreciation thread (which I don’t mind at all) I’ll add these (I’ve got hundreds but cannot be bothered to resize them all) ...

If anyone is visiting with the intention of driving Jais then feel free to let me know if you’d like a “local” guide.

I've never seen the appeal of grey cars (although it's my g/f's favourite car colour for some reason) - but that 12C looks really good in that colour.

When we spec’d the first one we narrowed it down to either Graphite Grey or Volcano Orange. I was not sure how well VO would age and it ultimately came down to the fact that we though GG was more discrete ... everyone I tell that to says “If you want discrete then don’t buy a McLaren” and they are, of course, correct.

My favourite pic of the grey one ...

I did chav it up ever so slightly ...

Seeing that picture taken outside the Al Qasr hotel , reminded me of a few years ago when the 540/570 was parked outside the Conrad hotel in Quinta do Lago pre launch , started taking a few photos with my phone , to be told I couldn’t take them as there was a ban on photos, to which I replied why leave the cars outside the front door of the hotel then ?

A few minutes later they disappeared.

The 650S is the McLaren that interests me most. I like this car and rarely hear any horror stories about it. Not even on PH!

I'm sure I saw a post somewhere that somebody had asked the mechanics which model they preferred, and they said the 650 because they never seemed to have any problems?

It's what I'm counting on anyway!

You might not believe this, but I get a similar response with my 12c...even though they are supposed to be the most unreliable cars ever known to mankind!

I often mutter about updating my car to the delivery driver and last to the head technician at Mac Birmingham (someone else had done some work on the car and not put a couple of bits back on quite correctly which were noticed when the car was in for it`s last service), and they both said I`d be better off keeping it as they have less problems...although I would say the 650S is virtually the same car so should be the same or slightly better.

I`d imagine the picture is skewed because there were some horror stories with a few earlier 12c`s, but most if not all are resolved now...but there are probably more niggly problems with newer cars, especially when first launched. I guess also there are more of the newer cars around, so they are likely to see more of them.

Agreed.

My take on this is that the 650 was from the Era when Mclaren wasn't rushing to mass produce cars like they are now so more attention was paid to detail. Add to this that most of the issues had already been ironed out in the few years previous MC4-12C production meant the 650 hit the ground running.

Nice work on the mileage! I was over in Dubai in March and hired a Huracan for the day to drive out to Jebel Jais...what a road awesome fun and wasn't holding back driving up it...as above cameras on the motorway there but the mountain road itself had non.
I'm aiming to be in Dubai next March - any change you could share who you hired off? PM is fine.

Thanks.

posted it earlier but here you go:

https://superiorrental.ae

I used these guys all arranged through their online chat and whatsapp pretty straightforward
Tbh they drop the car to your hotel and collect it also. They pre authorise a security deposit on you credit cars again any damage and speeding tickets, make sure to check the car over before heading off..only thing I hit debited after returning was a small amount for some tolls. As Rgds mileage I think I did 70-80 miles over the allowance as I did the run up and down Jais twice of course! That was all agreed before hand think it added about £150 to the total so wasnt too bad and everything went smoothly. Great experience the road really is something special as you have two lanes all the way up so you can really make progress.

This my take too. It seems a very logical conclusion, which is odd to read on PH. Refreshing! wink

I am conflicted....it also screws with my ocd but i cannot remember ever seeing a trip counter that high...they actually left it like that when it was in being serviced 4 weeks ago for the same reason!

Good to see them getting used.

You needed to have done another 0.1 miles before taking that shot! I never bother with the trip option and have it set for journey instead.

My car came with the MSO shift lights integrated into a CF instrument surround. Fanatastic for night time track sessions ...

Green at just over 6k, then amber, red and the blue flash at the redline. The above taken when the lights cycle as I select manual and hence why the revs don’t match.

Just googled that dash...there is a youtube vide from Newport McLaren demonstrating it..

Really cool bit if kit I'm guessing was a tad expensive to option?

It wasn't on the original options list here in the UK...

I didn’t spec this car (learnt my lessons on buying new McLarens with the 12C) so not sure exactly what it would have cost. I believe it came from the MSO “an arm, a leg and your first born” options list and hence was stupidly expensive ... multiple thousands GBP type expensive.

It did help convince me that this was the car for me though biggrin.
