An interesting purchase ferdiB, when you get a chance to look through the paperwork would you be able to furnish us with what warranty items have been ironed out in the first 18k miles?

I wonder if he'll know. I didn't get any paperwork for that kind of thing for my car - and in fact, the g/f specifically asked that question when we first looked at the car, but the dealer refused to give us that information.

The previous & only owner tells me it had the usual electronic gremlins that were ironed out by the updates. Dodgy passenger seat sensor & worst thing has been cracking front windscreen, it's on it's 3rd! (All paid under warranty)

Car has never let him down & he wants 1st refusal when I sell it... so it can't be that bad!

You've traded so well there Ferdi. To be running these and getting in and out of 650s/720s for a few thousand at less than 50% MSRP amazing! I imagine AB would have taken £10-15k coms minimum so £120k ish to vendor on a two year old 720s with 18k miles! At £250,000 list 7.20p per mile a 720s costs first owner to run in depreciation over a couple of years smile

£10-£15k commision, I may be completely out of touch that that seems a seriously large number for commision if it was a SoR job?

Not sure maybe just on these high end sports cars? I know someone selling a GT2 RS. He's making £25k coms.

JZM who are nos 1 SOR merchants I think take up to 7% of sale price and an up front £500 prep cost. So they'd be at £25k ish on a GT2 RS or Pista too.

Some do, some don't... taken from another thread:-

Fairly sure Harry Metcalf said on the Collecting Cars podcast that he was recently offered a GTC4 Lusso (not sure if it was a V8 or V12) with a few thousand miles on it which was £150K less than its list price which is pretty staggering (scary).
…….
JCT in Leeds also had a Lambo Perfromante up at £169k which would have been £270k only 12 months ago.

So whilst McLaren do have their own unique problems regarding depreciation, largely due to over-supply IMHO, it's not exclusive

That's a well debated topic. Usually the answer is that McLaren don't yet have the long-standing heritage / brand image. As time goes by, and as more people buy in at the lower end of the market, the top end should hold up.

thanks ferdiP great to hear its never let the one and only previous owner down. pretty much half the original invoice price you paid. plus give or take a few grand you essentially swapped it for your 650s with a 5 month lag. nicely done!

Thanks...

Not sure where people are getting these SOR commission rates from!? I've sold a good few cars (100-130k) thru a few decent 'SOR' firms & never paid over 5k!

this is what I thought was the case. A dealer making £10-20k commision without buying the car into stock feels very high to me.

Depends how the sale is structured. If you have an invoice from AB his firm is responsible for your car in term of warranty for next 90 days. I would not take that risk for £5k. Lets say for example for whatever reason your gearbox goes and Mcl refuse to cover under manufacturers warranty on fine print, for arguments sake you took to track without pre or post track inspection as per Mcl warranty terms. In this circumstance AB would be picking up tab for a 720s gearbox in my view if he's sold the car.

The figures above are factual in terms of what I have been quoted by JZM in the past and speaking to another very reputable Indy marketing a 991 GT2 RS on SOR. Its a £350k car retail so £25k not really all that much in the scheme of things.

Agreed, I was only commenting on the rates for 100-150k cars not 350k ones!

They do in this market. See the V12 ones, or even the 488.

All supercars are affected now.

I’m afraid I totally disagree. I’m only in a lowly 650s but the more I use it, the more I realize how much on a different league it is than,e.g., my V12 Vantage. No other supercar series comes with the low weight, the chassis stiffness, the precise steering with great feel, not to say the amazing top end. Instead brands like Aston and Lamborghini have to rely on style and making a loud noise to attract the footballers.

I have a guy down the street who says he bought his Aventador SV because it looks so cool, and has never gone “past the 4” (I think this refers to the rev counter). Now there’s an overpriced car.
