Hi,

My recently bought R8 is due a service. If I lived close to RE Performance, it would be going there, but it’s a little too far away for a minor service.

Has anyone had experience of Coulsdon Audi or Epsom Audi for R8 servicing ? Or would folks recommend another Audi centre nearby ?

Any feedback would be much appreciated !

Not used any of those however the previous owner of my R8 had Coulsdon Audi service the car several times so I'm assuming as they went back, it was a positive experience.

However my experience of dealers isn't fantastic, being told I need work done on one health check only for another health check 15 miles previous (they were between an MOT and MOT re-test) being clean.

I live on the south cost outside Portsmouth and I still take my car to Ricky even though it's a 200 mile round trip.

Thanks both. Yes I would prefer to take the car to Ricky but just a little far for the minor that is due. May have to just bite the bullet and go see him!

It's worth the effort. They don't come any better than Ricky when talking R8's.

Epsom (Driftbridge) Audi are good, family run dealership.

I have both my current Audis serviced there and they looked after my R8 V8 when I had that many years ago.

Just check that they still service them.

Audi Coulsdon is my 'local' Audi dealership; I don't own an R8 but I bought and had my S3 serviced there numerous times.

Customer experience and engagement leaves a little to be desired; mainly due to either slow response times and/or a lack of information/understanding from the individuals that I've spoken to (mainly on the service side).

Services themselves however, no issues encountered and they've always been able to accommodate me requesting that I'm first in/out when I have the car in with them.

They recently limited their inclination to give out hire cars (depending on the type of service being delivered) which is also a grumble, but not the end of the world. It may be different for an R8 customer vs. an S3 customer...?

I have used The Phirm in Blackwater near Camberley

Very committed and knowledgeable staff / owner, good labor rate, have done everything needed with no issues & to agreed cost including fitting new valved exhaust, trouble shoot & fix engine management light, fix air con, service, new strut, new high level brake light & more. No problems & they are right by a station & have courtesy cars, very convenient.

I've seen R8s RS6s etc in there and they are specialised in VAG cars so you see all sorts from old Golfs to the fast stuff, modified cars etc. They have the latest dealer kit & let's be honest the engine is a standard VAG unit that they have worked on for years in other vehicles. You won't find anyone say a bad word about the place

I too can also highly recommend Ricky as a brilliant tech

Sorry for jumping into the thread, but has anyone experience of R8 servicing in Essex?

Are Chelmsford OK? I've seen a few R8s in the service car park and they have looked after my current car well (although it's been faultless).

Audi UK list Colchester as the R8 Centre. Are they more knowledgeable, the same hourly rates?

Thanks for all the great feedback and sorry for the delay in replying (have been away and only just got back). Really value the input, and have booked into Epsom Audi on the back of the views above.

Yes, all main dealer so far so have been thinking of keeping scheduled servicing to main dealers and will be using Ricky for all non-routine items and any advisory elements.

The service I had was so bad from Audi, I wrote to the head of Audi uk.

Colour of oil after my Audi “major” service, after its 4 mile drive home. I got my money back.

I drive to RE now. It’s almost 2 hours, but Ricky is a massive enthusiast of the V10 and proper engineering geek like myself. Enjoyed my trip down there, Ricky had plenty of time to show me his engine building room etc and let me look round, plus was happy to share knowledge. 10/10 top bloke!

Infact if I go the Mclaren route I’d probably stick with him!

Wow... that is shocking. So charged for oil service but clearly no change ? Was this a dealer in the south east?

It was indeed. I won’t reveal which though. I guess it’s fine if you buy a new car and it’s on a 3 year plan As you’ll be chucking it back in the system. If you’ve bought the car used, out right and You have money tied up in the thing, then you want to know it has been serviced properly.

The oil cooler plug had clearly not been removed.

I’ve heard great things about Ricky. Will be asking him to do some non-routine stuff that I want doing due to my OCD nature!

Interestingly, the health check on my car (carrier out by main dealer) has indicated the tyres should be replaced as the treads are 4mm !!!. I guess this is why dealers are often called stealers! smile

Sounds about right for main dealers. Tyres at 4mm and brake pads at 70%. I have a 2 hour drive to Ricky's but consider it worth the effort for his expertise.

Dont have an R8 but a C6 RS6, V10 5.0. Personally i would find a decent Indie, not sure it has to even be an Audi Specialist, my local chap has looked after my RS6 and classic D2 S8 for years at what I suspect are a fraction of the costs of a main dealer. Main Dealers up here in central belt of Scotland are dreadful, my son had some major issues after what you might think would be a fairly routine gearbox service. As always this is only my opinion of course biggrin

That is shocking and item of evidence #4,243 as to why I go to Ricky for servicing.

I do let Audi do my MOT but that's about it.
