Has anyone had emails or texts through from McLaren Dealerships offering to buy pre-owned vehicles?

Someone on here recently posted up that McLaren HQ are throttling back on production for the UK market. Looks like there has been a change in strategy and dealers need to have some stock to sell. Good news if the rumour is correct. Should hopefully slow down depreciation.

I guess also change in emission standards and homologation rules...

OEMs are struggling to keep up with legislations so guess McLaren is focusing efforts in developing next gen products and keep current production to niche level.

Suspect that’s just a view that whichever way Brexit goes, people are going to have less to spend and it makes more sense to re-orient production a bit towards LHD

Don’t think this has much to do with just UK, the major economies are all going through slower growth and slowing. We seem to blame all woes on Brexit.

Interesting if it's true, and IMO it's what McLaren should have dove along time ago. Taking a bit more ownership on the used market and supporting values.

This could be a good thing unless they start making stupid trade offers which most manufacturers do!

I received a call today from the dealer who services my car essentially offering a loyalty bonus with anyone wanting to move on from a 12c/650S to a new car. I said I`d want to p/x 2 cars (12c/430 Cup Exige) if I were to do anything...interesting to find out what sort of deals are being offered...

About time
People who can afford these cars got their money by not giving it away, taking massive hits on new cars is not sustainable, the belts are tightening and the queue at the dealers doors is dwindling, massive discounts will kill the brand. Support the owners and they will come back, treat them like McLaren have to date and they won’t, dump and run, back to the other brands who give the perception that they care.

Sadly, I agree with you about supporting the owners. I can't go into it at the moment, but I am having a very poor experience with one of the franchised dealers.

First time I don't agree with you Justin - all Supercar manufacturers are currently on the run - it's the market - my McL experience to date has been absolutely top hole.

My comment was in response to, support owners and they will come back.

Reason being.. Treat owners like they currently do, and they won't have any customers left

I cant see it personally.

As most of the main dealers are franchised by different companies it would mean Mclaren themselves underwriting every purchase made, Im probably not alone when I say that given there past business practises, I think the chances of this happening are slim.

Yes I speak as a former owner. I was an early owner of a 12c, I put down a deposit way before launch when I was assured that McLaren were going to be different, that they would support their used market, dealers haven’t wanted to buy used cars in since the brand was launch, that’s why Alistair Bols started up, he saw a gap in the market and knew the brand well.
McLaren have stuck to their business plan, new model every year despite the changing world economy now they are running out of punters and discounting heavily, not a sustainable business model. They should of cut their production numbers to suit demand, that would have help the used market, and encouraged repeat buying, instead of the long line of one time owners with very burnt fingers.
They are great cars but they are just too expensive per mile to own, 5K per annum for a warranty plus service, come on McLaren show some faith in your own product
