It’s only really free fall if you buy brand new. For subsequent buyers, you are actually getting a bargain!!
Yep. I bought a car that I really shouldn't be able to afford.
I wonder what you'd be bid on that car trade now? £75k? Only you can say if this is affordable or value for money but with your ownership experience full of niggles it wouldn't have been an enjoyable experience for me. From the outside sounds a slightly annoying ownership experience full of gremlins which never seem permanently fixed as when you get rid of one another totally random issue rears its ugly head.

Literally everybody on this forum knows about the depreciation. I don't really care what the trade value is - I'd certainly expect it to sell it privately for more than £75k. But if I don't - that's life - I bought it knowing it still had plenty of depreciation.

The ownership so far has been frustrating, and constantly annoying. And, if the car continues to throw issues like this between now and Spring, then I will likely sell it - whether that's for £90k, £75k or £1.50 - who knows.

However, here's the bottom line : Annoying though it is - I don't regret buying it. I may have said I'm reaching that point a couple of times when I was throwing my toys out the pram - but I don't. It's an amazing car, and I've glad I've experienced it - and will continue to for at least a few months. If it continues to throw errors, I'll sell it and probably not buy another one. But I'll still be glad I had one. And if it does start behaving - it really will be astounding.

True I suppose the exit price is the exit price whatever it is but its ownership experiences like yours that is driving steep depreciation even if you have bought a used car within the mcl used network. I agree amazing car if you can get it to work without the niggles but I believe you may well have to adjust your expectations and accept its a slightly fussy supercar with odd foibles from time to time.

That's a worrying (almost) positive view from you on McLarens Desert Dragon, are you OK? wink

I'v said it before and i will say it again...it never ceases to amaze that it is always the non Mac owners that seem to be most wrapped up in Mac values and depreciation....

It's rather the same with Range Rovers - the non-owners are the ones most wrapped up in the reliability issues.

..and SUVs generally - the non-owners are the most vociferous about the drawbacks of the class. All tarred with the same brush, despite as wide a variety (or wider) than any other class of vehicle.

It says rather a lot about human nature IMHO.

Me...I'd love a Mac, any Mac, sat on my drive alongside a FFRR.

Nature of the innernet innit? Doubt many would say any negative things, yet alone slagging off a marque, to someone’s face yet hide behind a keyboard and a warrior is born.

“The internet has given stupid people a voice”. Discuss :-)

Bit of a silly statement that.... if I were to "bump into" a chap with a macca I would quite happily have a discussion about how I went to the showroom in knutsford when it first opened but the 12c didn't do it for me.... then as the newer models have appeared they have grown on me .ore and more. I would have no issue suggesting that a major factor in stopping me making the jump from Ferrari to McLaren is the lack of an indy network and potentially very serious repair costs through the main dealers....not to mention tanking values.....

Yeah, I'd happily say that to any McLaren driver I met.

On my way to collect my 570s, at the 90k mark what other car is that special? buying a new one is always gonna mean a heavy hit but that's the same if you buy a new Aston, Lambo or even regular Ferraris at this point

Yep, never black and white and always will be exceptions but generally still think people are more likely to say negative stuff from behind a keyboard which was the point I was trying to make.... albeit maybe not that well.

Well, you are most certainly in the minority...i can say hand on heart almost everytime i park up the mac in anywhere apart my driveway someone wants to engage in either a quick compliment or an actual chat...

Not once has anyone mentioned tanking values, lack of indies or repair costs.

In fact, none of your topics would be in my top 100 questions if i bumped into a performate owner at a petrol station etc.

Different folks different strokes i guess....

Couldn’t agree more (as a serial Ferrari owner). Seems an easy buy at this price given that the most you could ever lose is £90k no matter how long you keep the car! You’d lose a similar amount in 1-2 years if brand new. Enjoy your new ride smile

Very strange response.... you talk as if the general public are adoring fanboys.... the thing is, if you and I were to bump into each other at a petrol station I would not worry about asking you about any concerns you may or may not have with reliability issues etc .. it's as if anything other than someone fawning all over you shouldn't happen
The statement was made that people wouldn't dare make negative to comments to owners faces in real life.. I certainly would in the context t of a conversation. Just like I've had jokey banter with my neighbour about his white Bentley conti...I would never buy one in a million years but he doesn't take offence in the same way I dont take offence when he calls me a caveman for having a manual donkey...

Not a strange response...i am telling you how it is when i am out and about....no 'fanboys' whatever they are...just polite comments or chats about the car.

If i parked up and an individual started talking about tanking values, lack of indies, large repair bills or other stuff i have absolutely no real interest in, i would politely point out i have to be somewhere else...

Well.. as long as everyone is being super polite and complimentary bully for you... if me and you were in a hypothetical conversation and you asked me about negative perceptions about the metal and rubber I happen to own I certainly wouldn't feel the need to abort the conversation...

Then again, I am seeing a fairly rabid Christian crusader mentality amongst a lot a McLaren drivers so perhaps I wouldn't be too surprised.

Loosing any coolant isn't good for modern high performance petrol engines. If the car ran for even a relatively short time with low coolant it can lead to local hot-spots (usually on the exhaust side of the cylinder heads).

Depending on how hot these condition persist it can lead to very slight distortion which, in turn, can lead head gasket issues in the future or when the maximum power is used.

Its the same reason that any high performance turbo-charged petrol engine should be allow to idle for a few moments after a run to dissipate residual heat build up - these conditions 'can' raise the coolant pressure which will eject coolant and sometimes blow hoses and cheap hose clips

I'm sure McLaren will do a pressure tests but it might be worth asking.

It’s back. And I think the engines still in fire wink

McLaren were very good. Less than a week. New catalytic converter and all the other little bugs fixed too at the same time.

They threw in a factory tour and a pure driving day as an apology which is nice!

That's very good service from McLaren..This thread has ended up in my perception of McLaren after sales service going up a few notches.
