Real life experience! - have a 570s - best supercar I have ever owned smile

You can love the car, but still be distant from the company. Your loyalty is to your car not the manufacturer or dealer. I've met some dealers who were good and some who I wouldn't pee on if they were on fire.

It's always good to hold dealers' and manufacturers' balls to the fire. They are not on our side.

I would agree with that for faceless mass-production white-good type manufacturers, but for more specialist stuff your enjoyment of the car can be significantly improved if you have a dealer who you trust.

My 570s has been a joy to own, I've never had any concerns with my dealer and as a result I'm now a huge McLaren fan. It was the same when I had TVRs, my enjoyment of the cars was again greatly enhanced because I had a local specialist who I trusted 100%

Indeed great that Youtubers take on the manufacturers, but I do wish they would be more professional and do background research instead of just spouting hearsay gibberish. The longer the piece, the more that becomes clear. As both a Mac and a Tesla MS owner, I can certainly say that Jayemm’s recent Model 3 piece was particularly ill-informed with about 3 minutes of content, most of it opinion vs fact. I can see that part of the problem these folks face is that can’t really live with the cars, which is a lot different then driving them around for a bit.
I actually asked Tesla for a press car, because EVs in particular really need to be lived with - and I had zero experience of Tesla to get the "tesla difference".

They didn't even respond to my email.

Petrol Peds latest YouTube video gives a much more accurate picture of McLaren ownership when he drove the new GT 1,000 miles in a week, trouble free in dire weather on UK roads. Much like many McLaren owners.

I'm sure you meant something else, but that really reads as :

12pack : Tesla review was just made up stuff which was grossly inaccurate
Jayemm89 : Well, Tesla wouldn't give me a car so I had to make it up

It would help if he could tell me which bits of the review he felt were inaccurate... it was a pretty positive review too. Funny how those are often the ones that get the most criticism - I'm clearly not positive enough!

Hello, I’ll get back to you by message. But my point was still that no matter what, the fallacy of the Youtube reviews is that you are not really experiencing the car but driving it around for a bit - hence essentially all your impressions are just first impressions which generally change once you actually use the car. Things like - not being able to view the centre located speed readout (which you get used to and is no different from going from a analog to a digital speedo that is located somewhere different than where you’d expect), the quality of the materials (they are higher quality and more responsibly sourced than, say an E class, but most people get that impression due to the absence of knobs and buttons. A Patek is much higher quality than a Breitling). These are things you realize after living with the car. I had many such reactions as I listened to that review, as well as some of the offhand comments you made about full EVs. If I get some time I’ll go through it again and send them to you.

BTW, (the setup behind) that centre screen that you complained about is what makes Tesla many years ahead. They’ve been able to design a car with a single central scaleable, upgradeable software architecture. No one else is close. This is why McLaren 570/720 have all those electric gremlins - because the 5 + different parts of the software architecture miscommunicate (the 12C / 650 have “only” 3). Why don’t you know this if you are reviewing the car, or if you do - why don’t you state it?

And this may sound very superficial, but given how you sit in the car, I just can’t take you seriously when you describe how the car drives. Unlike say Harris or Harry. Sorry if I’m being unfairly critical. As an American living in sunny Cheshire, and with racing licenses in both countries, probably just overreacting to your stereotyping of US drag strip culture. rolleyes

Car companies beginning with M or T are difficult to deal with? Did I get it?

Also, threatening and taking action are quite different. Is it so hard to believe that big car companies will try and throw their weight to be a little bullyish? Harris and Ferrari springs to mind...

Actually only one car company ever threatened me with legal action.

If you would like a more extensive list you could add Volvo, Ford, Vauxhall, Mercedes and BMW to the list of companies who simply never even gave me the courtesy of a response.

And actually, things are going quite well as far as I am concerned.

I agree wholeheartedly that opinions of cars can change after time exposed to them - which is why I like getting press cars for review, they are also usually prepared to a high standard which prevents me from making false assumptions based on vehicles which are not up to standard.

Look, it could have been shorter, but it was an entertaining video so long as you are not a McLaren owner. And it gave McLaren Manchester a well deserved boot up the jacksie. However, we all need to move on now.

I like Harry's videos as well, but did you see the one with the McLaren GT? Where he took off from the village on a cold morning with the windows frosted up?
