Posted this elsewhere but thought to get people’s thoughts as I am thinking about swap out of my 599 (long time Ferrari fan) into a McL.

I went to a London main McL dealer. I was given a walk around by the receptionist and when a salesman popped up I gave my situation and agreed to arrange a test drive. Three follow up emails went unanswered including leaving mobile details again as well as availability for a proper run out (not just 20min dribble around Mayfair).

I gave up and so sent a final email saying I was disappointed at lack of anything close to customer service and have moved on. I got some trite response about being busy and let’s try again!

Aston Martin is on its back needing equity and chairman has gone while McL are slashing new car prices undermining the brand and rumored to be filling sheds with unregistered inventory. Customer service is totally within McL control but my poor experience tells me something is rotten. Please tell me McL experience isn’t like this otherwise I will stay with the Ferrari. At least I know what I am getting!!!

I think customer service varies from dealer to dealer - and some definitely still have plenty to learn.

Having said that - despite mine being a pain in the arse with niggles for the first few months - I'm increasingly glad I bought it.

I think the dealer you went to has a 'reputation' McLaren dealers are mostly run by various chains including Sytner, Rybrook, Harwoods, Jardine. I have had great service from Rybrook & Sytner franchises and terrible from Jardine. Try another dealer or speak to Alistair Bolls.

Thank you for the replies. I’ve heard AB in good terms from several places and have a call into them

I tried to buy a car from them in 2011, tbh the dealer was pretty hopeless but Mclaren even worse, unfortunately they still seem to have the longstanding 'we're perfect' arrogant attitude that they're renowned for.

McLaren Leeds are absolutely top hole smile - cannot recommend them highly enough from sales to aftercare - best car dealer I have ever been involved with.

I had good experiences with both Birmingham and New Forest when buying mine and would recommend either.

I've dealt with Hatfield on both the Aston and McLaren sides (part of Grange), really good bunch you should get in touch.

I’ve had nothing but good service from McLaren London.

It shouldn’t but it depends on the person you speak with.

I called sky for a retention deal. First person I spoke with not helpful and said their system only allowed 20% off for a minimum 18 month term. Called back and spoke to next person, got offered 50%.

Called hmrc yesterday, tbf 31 Jan they were probably very busy. First person couldn’t do anything without a utr code, next call handler sorted everything I needed without it.

Maybe I was lucky as I’ve heard some of the London dealerships can be aloof and bad service but I have to give credit where due and across the brands, especially Hr Owen and McLaren London.

Suggest you give them another go. It’s like any organisation, once you build that relationship things will be better for you. If they are still crap after a second chance with you then go elsewhere cause it’s definitely in the buyers market part of the boom bust cycle right now.

Mclaren Glasgow have been excellent over the last two years with me. Hard to fault

I went out to buy a new 720 before Christmas, even had insurance arranged.

Dealer stock car wasn't right, and customer service was lacklustre: no offer to source what I wanted, couldn't even get a test drive (in spite of buying *two* other "100k+ cars from the same dealer group in 2019, one of which was a walk in/impulse buy). Even though I made it clear that the showroom car wasn't right I've had no follow-up since. Might well have placed a factory order if I'd liked it on the drive, but wallet remained closed on the day and I've since bought something else.

Some will say try another dealer, but when the network is so thin it's a PITA when it comes to servicing if you don't have confidence in your local one.

my experience with Mclaren Ascott has been excellent, which has the same owner as Mclaren London.

On a seperate note, i had very bad experience with Lambo London and Porsche London Mayfair. They were very arrogant and I swore I will never walk into both dealership again. Then I talked to other Lambo/Porsche dealers outside London and I was treated as a VIP despite I had no relationship with them before. I think it could be that London dealers (any brand) only focuse on billionares who drive majority of their revenue.

Pick your dealer. If they don't return calls etc, just move on to another one.

I bought from Hatfield, and have always had impeccable service.

Only ever had outstanding experience from Ascot and then latterly Knightsbridge as the guy I deal with has moved there. Have bought 2 cars, 1 from each dealer and always received the same excellent service etc from both. Cannot fault them, however, I do find it disappointing and strange to see when people have had bad experiences at the same dealers as can understand the frustrations - my last few experiences with Porsche were so poor, it has turned me off the brand so much I certainly won't be going back any time soon.

+1 another good experience from McL Hatfield from me too (Rob P is ex JZM and a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic chap, and down to earth).
