Hi all, after years of scrolling through these forums, i have finally gave in and created my own username. I understand this is a forum, and people are entitled to their own opinions, however there is a lot of nonsense that is thrown around on here regarding McLaren as a brand.
I would love to give owners advice/resolutions for issues/recommendations etc, i would love to give potential owners advice on these things also... as i feel the brand does take a beating on here, which is very frustrating when McLaren actually build probably the best performance cars on the road today (i am sure the other owners on here feel the same).
A bit about me, i have extensive knowledge of the brand, having worked for them for over 4 years, and i can honestly offer an unbiased, yet factual view on all concerns/questions.
If anyone has any questions etc, please PM me, i will monitor these regularly.. or simply ask anything on this thread. I hope i can be useful to some people... thanks.
Hello, first off thanks for offering services. Bit of a silly question really but I went to view my first 12c today as I'm almost in a position to purchase, the right colour/year/spec/miles etc, but I was worried by a couple of things. Firstly the rear bumper was a different shade to the rest of the car by some margin. Secondly and more worrying was that there was a grinding/rattling noise that seemed to be at a coasting speed or light throttle when moving off. Now my thoughts are it could be auxilliary device at best or clutch/gearbox at worst. The owner, though a really nice enough chap said he hadn't noticed either and would be putting a new McLaren warranty on the car. I really liked the car but my head is thinking on. Looking for reassurance I suppose when I really already know full well it shouldn't be there. Any advice on either would be appreciated? Thanks in advance and promise not to be a nuisance.I would love to give owners advice/resolutions for issues/recommendations etc, i would love to give potential owners advice on these things also... as i feel the brand does take a beating on here, which is very frustrating when McLaren actually build probably the best performance cars on the road today (i am sure the other owners on here feel the same).

anyone?
Get it booked into Thorney's for an PP inspection and ask them to report on the noise, if they don't know then no-one does. If it's got a clean bill of health and this issue diagnosed then negotiate the price down to cover the fixing and repainting the rear bumper. McLaren don't give out paint codes so possibly an independent has had a go and matching but not quite got the right shade. To get it 100% it needs to go to a McLaren approved paint facility which are mainly accessed via the main dealer network. Expensive but it'll be right first time.
If it comes with a McLaren warranty then it's going to be fully supported so that should give you confidence to proceed as long as the issues above are sorted.

I understand there is an internal battery inside the McLaren factory fitted tracker that can be replaced. Is your monitoring servicing reporting an issue with seeing the car?If thats the case,i wonder if Vodafone will pay the bill to get the fault cleared of the car if it has to go back to Mclaren? Whats given me the zig is that we are going to sell it, and this warning came up when i was going to take it over to the guy that is going to sell it for me.

Very nice.I asked, as you are thinking of selling, and I am thinking of buying; I’m looking for one right now.
Piston heads is very strict about not allowing solicitation, so I won’t fall foul of the rules, but if you did post an advert on here, I’d appreciate it if you could let me know, cheers.

I got onto Vodafone and they somehow cleared the problem!! Which i think was good of them as i have never had it activated.
Mr PistonGuy66 was kind enough to show me round his car at the weekend, and if anyone is looking to see a beautiful example of a 650s Spider, his really does look something special.I’d been hoping to see if he’d sell, but sadly my wife doesn’t want an orange car, so I can’t.

Did you not see it was orange before you went? I’d been hoping to see if he’d sell, but sadly my wife doesn’t want an orange car, so I can’t.

I did, but hadn't realised that my wife would have an opinion on the colour of what will be my car. I suppose that I do want her to be happy to come away in it with me.All the R8 has been used for this year is a 20 mile run once a fortnight to keep it in good condition, during which I take my little boy to McDonalds. I'm hoping that I'll get more use out of the new car.
